Cycling Without Age Scotland Stonehaven

The trishaws are operated by trained volunteer pilots and the service is free.

Giving people of all ages with limited mobility, the opportunity to feel the wind in their hair as they enjoy a trip in one of Stonehaven Chapter's trishaws, Rosie and Jimmy.

07/09 Today we did 2 trips from Edenholme, piloted by Joanne and James, and outrider'd by Kam.

The day was overcast, a little windy, and the start of the days getting colder.

On the first trip we had Gordon with carer Audrey, and Jim and Maureen. We had a leisurely ride to the harbour, over the boardwalk, thru town and back.

On the second trip, we had Mary and George, and Margaret and George. That's right, 2 x Georges!
Again, we rode to the harbour and back, via the boardwalk and town centre. Margaret showed us where she used to live on Brickfield Road.

Kam did learn a new word today, "scaffie." Thanks Margaret!

03/09 A lovely couple of trips out today with 8 residents from Clashfarquhar. Ian & Anne were piloted by Dave, and Agnes and Muriel had Linda as their pilot. A trip down to the Craws Nest & the harbour where we enjoyed the sun and chatted. Anne was loving the sun on her face and told us she used to be a matron at a hospital in Singapore and misses the heat. We had a high dog count today on the first trip with 55 plus.

The score on the second round was only 10, but Val and Wilma and Billy and Ann seemed happy with the trip to Cowie, and Pilot Dave gave us lots of local information that ranged from being able to jump across the Cowie river when he was a lad as the outlet is the same narrow width as it is today, to why the hill with the monument is locally called Black Hill. This is because it was frequently black after burning gorse.
Mo was the outrider today. Another lovely day out.

02/09 Only 1 trip today from Mowat Court, so we decided a trip to the castle was in order. Kam was piloting Mora and Pat. Glenn was piloting Ella and Helen, and Gordon was our outrider. It was a wee bit nippy to start but blue skies were to be seen on our way up the Bervie Braes. Once we rounded the corner we saw a helicopter hovering over the castle removing loads from the grounds...quite a spectacle, but this meant the paths were closed to the castle. After that we headed back to the harbour, the boardwalk and back up the road. Today was busy on our travels, and with lots of folk saying hi. Everyone had a great time.

28/08 One trishaw and one trip from Edenholme this morning. Despite the rain, which started just as we arrived, Gordon and carer Gill were very keen to get out. Expertly piloted by Kam, with equally expert outrider Jenny, we went down to the harbour where happily the rain stopped.

It was Gordon’s third trishaw trip, he told us and the happy smiles say it all. He can’t wait for the next one!

27/08 Two very enjoyable trips out from Haven Court today, with loads of chatter and happy clients. Both trips we headed down to the harbour then along the sea front to the Craws Nest.
Pilot Gillian had Lesley and Mary on the first trip, then Thelma and Betty. Pilot Iain had Birthe and Agnes on the first trip, then Les and Nan. George was our able outrider.

26/08 Two lovely trips from Forest View today. Pilots James and Joanne and outrider Gillian expertly pedaled along the seafront, the harbour, and the Craws Nest.

On the first trip Hannah was accompanied by carer Debbie, and Saskia was with carer Louise. On the second trip Dylan was with carer Wendy, and Euan with carer Sarah.

Plenty of people were out and about to wave and chat to. We saw swimmers and paddle boarders, as well as big earthmovers on the beach that Dylan was interested in. He also got to hold a sausage dog called Enzo. Euan chatted to some folk and was delighted that one of them was called Gordon!

20/08 Some days the rain turns out to be a positive thing. We were scheduled with Haven Court today. One trishaw was loaded up with Lesley and Mary when the rain started. Mary was worried about her hair getting wet so out came one of the ponchos. We never got as far as loading the next trishaw. The rain got wetter and we all felt soggy so decided that a cuppa and a chat inside would be better.

And that’s exactly what we did. So instead of a few people benefitting from a chat and company, a whole room of Haven Court residents did. Mo served the tea/ coffee and snacks while Iain had everyone involved in conversations ranging from Scottish country dancing, the best b**r, knitting ( that was Mo) and the only animal that cannot jump. It’s apparently an elephant! George opted to walk his dogs and get even wetter.

18/08 Today's outing was from Mowat Court. Our pilots were Joanne and Robert, with outrider Kam. Our passengers were Eileen and husband Bill, Murdo and first time rider, carer Ella.

We only had one trip, so it was decided that we would head to Dunnottar Castle.

The weather was warm and humid. We rode to the castle, enjoying a leisurely ride, looking at cows and the beautiful golden fields. The castle was busy, many visitors enjoying the castle. It had actually gotten on the hot side, so we decided to head back sooner rather than later.

On the way back, we stopped and had a chat with a gentleman walking his dogs; Eileen and Bill managed to get some quality dog time.

Then the rain started.

We had to take refuge under a tree at Bervie Brae and wait for the rain to stop. And it did. So we headed onwards.

Then the real rain started.

We made sure our guests were covered as much as possible.

After all that, it actually was a wonderful outing.

17/08 A balmy morning for our trips from Havencourt. On our first run, expertly piloted by Susan and Garry with outrider Jenny, frequent flyers Les and Donna were joined by first timers Joyce and Hazel. Hazel worked for many years in the pet shop which sadly closed its doors for the last time this summer.

We went down to the harbour and enjoyed watching the activity along at Botany Bay - paddle boarders and kayakers as well as a fishing boat dropping its creels in the water. On the boardwalk we bumped into Daisy, who along with her owner Pat feature often in our photos.

On our second trip we followed much the same route. We had another first timer, Jim, along with regulars David, Margaret and Diane. There was less to watch on the water but there was lots of chat and everyone, pilots and passengers, enjoyed being out and about.

14/08 Two lovely trips from Clashfarquhar House to the harbor, with Agnes and Muriel, Jimmy and Iain, then Wilma and Sandy, Anne and Ann. Susan and Ken were our pilots, and Hannah was our outrider.

We saw the much-spoken about tallship! Our passengers loved seeing the Tallship Fryderyk Chopin. It had sailed over from Stavanger, heading to Aberdeen today ⛵️. And Muriel & Agnes enjoyed cuddles with doggie Angus.
