Our second car this weekend was Car 56: Thomas Milne & Neil Jeffrey in the MG3 Rally Challenge car! Leading the championship all day, with a 7 second lead after SS6, the day was about to come to a dramatic end as they scrambled to stay out of a high speed ditch on SS7, only to hit a culvert, flipping the car on its front end and coming to rest on its side. Both crew are ok, however the car has sustained significant damage and the win was lost.

Education and training for children and young people is pivotal in ensuring that continues to gain traction. With our "Youth Voice Award", we wanted to recognise those who are encouraging and supporting children and young people to get stuck into motorsport, whether as a competitor, mechanic, marshal or trainee Official, or another volunteer role.

And the winner was Junior 1000 Ecosse Challenge.

The whole committee are brilliant, what a team. They work tirelessly together to promote rally driving to 14 to 17 year olds in Scotland. Roy Campbell, the chairman is a wonderful ambassador for rally and tirelessly fund raising to promote the sport and training days for young people. Rhona Dickie as coordinator keeps everybody organised and on track to be at events to promote the championship in Scotland and throughout the UK, recruiting new drivers from every walk of life from near and far, often with no former connection to rallying. And all the other members of the committee who endlessly give up their time and travel long distances to train youngsters in all aspects of the sport; training them to become rally stars of the future or simply to build confidence where it may have been lacking before, pulling in professionals from all areas of the industry and outside but related areas of motorsport to train them. They make things personal: they will go out of their way to help individuals who may be finding things difficult and pull them forward to become both proud and responsible drivers, simultaneously creating a camaraderie that lasts well beyond the years of the challenge. The Challenge was started by David “Digby” Barlow in 2012 and is being supported as enthusiastically today by the all-volunteer committee and is finding innovative strategies for reaching out to new audiences and giving opportunities to all those that they can and creating a healthy future for rally in Scotland.

Navigational Rally Training 2025

Stonehaven & District Motor Club are pleased to announce their 2025 training sessions.
Following on from our successful 2024 training sessions we are now offering classroom based training for anyone aged 12 years and over.
Whether you are a complete newcomer to motorsport, or maybe you are a former competitor who now have children or grandchildren, the training is open to all.
Places are limited so please contact Yvonne to book your place.

For the class of 2024, the second sesssion on 27th February may be of interest to you to brush up on your skills ahead of the 2025 season.

Navigational rallying is a low budget form of motorsport, many of the world’s top rally co-drivers started their careers with navigational rallying. Working as a crew of two (driver and navigator) the aim is to solve a clue and use an ordnance survey map to plot the correct route. You must then travel the route in a given time to reach a time control. This routine continues throughout the event.

A standard road car is all you need and a budding navigator. If you are keen to become a navigator then bring a driver. Driver and navigator must work as a team.

Book your place now and we look forward to seeing you on the 20th of February.
