Stonehaven Town Partnership, SC044314 (STP), the charity that owns and operates the Stoney Express are opening up the old Court Room as part of this years Open Doors Programme run by Aberdeenshire Council. For those of you who have been on the Stoney Express you will know the Court House was taken into ownership by the STP via an asset transfer and is now home to many third sector organisations and the court room is used by many community groups including the Community Council, Fireballs, Lions, Roundtable to name afew.

On Saturday we have Mackie Academy Mock Trail team joining us to use the Court Room as it was originally intended. Join use from 1.00pm when you will have the opportunity to be part of the Jury or as a member of the public and watch proceedings.

Mackie Academy Mock Trial team have been taking part in the Young Citizens Bar Mock Trial competition for 20 years and have won the Scottish title several times, last time being in 2023. The last two years we have been runners up but this year’s team is determined to win back the title! Over the years many team members have gone on to study law and entered the legal profession in both civil and criminal law fields. Whilst others have utilised the skills gained in public speaking, analysis, critical thinking and teamwork across a range of careers and further study. The STP have supported the Mock Trial team over the years and welcomed them into the Court Room so they can prepare in a “real life” environment!

Access to the Court Room is from 1pm on Saturday the 19th until 4pm and on Sunday 20th from 10am till 4pm. Please press the buzzer on the panel on the left hand side marked “Court Room”.
