Stockport's Offical Parent Carer Forum - Working in partnership to shape better services for children and young people disabilities & additional needs 0-25yrs

A strong voice of parents and carers is at the Heart of Stockport's delivery of services for children, young people with disabilities and additional needs and their families.

• We will be a forum for the views of parents and carers of children and young people with disabilities and additional needs on Stockport's SEND service provision.

• We will ask parents and carers of children and young people with disabilities and additional needs for their opinions. We will speak with a single voice for them.

• We will make parents and carers more confident as representatives. Enabling them to go on to then improve Stockport's services for children and young people with disabilities and additional needs

• We will work in partnership with Stockport Education, Health, Social Care and all other organisations in Stockport. Together we will Design, Develop and shape services which better meet the needs of children, young people and families better.

• We will provide information to parents and carers of children and young people with disabilities and additional needs. This information will empower parent carers and help them to make better use of Stockport's services.

Judges praised TSCG's exceptional outcomes, including 74% of Supported Internship participants progressing into paid employment and 96% of learners moving on to further education, employment or training.

Thank you for attending one of the previous SEND Information and Marketplace Sessions.

We would love to welcome you to the next free event on Monday 16th November, from 10am to 12pm at the Stockroom in Stockport town centre.

The event is open to parents and carers of children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).

We recommend arriving at 10am to hear a short introduction from the services attending before exploring the marketplace.

At the SEND Services Marketplace, you can visit information stalls and chat informally with local services about the support they offer, who it is for and how to access it.

You can explore at your own pace, speak to the services most relevant to your family, ask questions and collect information to take away. Council staff will also be available throughout the session to answer general enquiries and help you find the right support.

Whether you are looking for specific advice or simply want to learn more about the support available locally, we would be delighted to welcome you.

This week has marked Invisible Disabilities Week (18–24 October).

FASD is a hidden disability. As many as 2–4% of people in the UK may have FASD but most are not diagnosed, or are given the wrong diagnosis. More than 90% of people with FASD do not have sentinel facial features.

Too often, their difficulties are not understood.

When we understand FASD, we can give the right support.

The Department for Education has launched a Call for Evidence on the school exclusion reform proposals set out in the Schools White Paper ‘Every child achieving and thriving’.

The proposals include a national framework for internal suspension, reintegration support partnerships following a suspension, and the provision of schoolwork during the first five school days of suspension or permanent exclusion.

They would very much value your contribution to this Call for Evidence to help them understand how these proposals may affect families, including those who have children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).

The Call for Evidence, which has targeted questions for parents and carers, can be found on the link above and closes on 19 November 2026.

We encourage parents and carers, including those with experience of suspension or permanent exclusion, to respond directly. They will also separately be seeking views from children and young people to ensure their experiences inform the evidence base alongside school, parent and carer perspectives.
