Thank you for attending one of the previous SEND Drop-In Sessions.

We wanted to let you know that the next event will take place on Monday 21st September, from 10.00 am to 12.00 pm at the Stockroom in Stockport Town Centre.

This free event is open to parents and carers of children and young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND).

The session will begin with a short presentation providing an update on the ND Hub and the developing plans for Experts at Hand, one of the local SEND Reform projects.

Following the presentation, there will be a SEND Services Marketplace, where a range of local services will host information stalls.

This is an opportunity to have informal conversations with professionals, find out more about the support they offer, who it is for, and how to access it.

You can move around the marketplace at your own pace, speak to the services most relevant to your family, ask questions, and collect information to take away.

Council staff will also be available throughout the session to help with signposting and general enquiries.

Whether you are looking for specific advice or simply want to learn more about the support available locally, we would be delighted to welcome you.

🌟 NEW ACCESSIBLE, LOW-DEMAND CHURCH SERVICE 🌟 EMAIL RECEIVED

Hi, I’m Sam Bowden, a member of Hazel Baptist Church. I’m disabled myself, a carer for children and young adults with disabilities, and I have 30 years’ experience working in the disability sector.

For many years she wanted to create a church service where people with a wide range of disabilities can participate in whatever way works for them.

💛 The first service is Saturday 6th September at 4pm
⏰ It will last around 40 minutes.

There aiming to make the service as low-demand, inclusive and accessible as possible.

There will be:

✨ Multi-sensory Bible exploration tables for those who need to move, explore and learn through their senses
🪑 Rows of chairs for those who prefer a more traditional space
🙏 A sensory prayer corner
🌿 Three breakout spaces
🎧 Ear defenders and fidgets available
🖼️ PECS and choice boards throughout the service
🔊 Voice switches so people who are unable to speak or read can still take an active part
🤟 Makaton worship songs on screen to follow along with

The team has plenty of lived experience of hidden and physical disabilities, neurodiversity and dementia, as well as caring for and supporting others.

There is no pressure to sit still, stay quiet or participate in a particular way. Our hope is simply to create a welcoming church environment where people can engage in a way that works for them.

Good news for disabled bus pass holders in England! 🚌

From 1 April 2027, time restrictions on disabled concessionary bus passes will be removed. This means eligible disabled people will be able to travel on local buses for free at any time of day, every day.

Currently, passes are generally only valid from 9.30am to 11pm on weekdays, unless a local council offers more generous arrangements.

Removing these restrictions should make it easier for disabled people to travel to work, education, healthcare appointments and social activities, while helping with the cost of everyday travel.

We especially want to hear from you if you have experience of Personal Independence Payment (PIP).

By joining a Timms Review shaping recommendations workshop, you can help to refine the proposals and inform the Review’s final recommendations.

There are 9 in-person workshops and 6 online workshops running in September and October.
