Two Scout Troops from Cromwell District met our local MP recently, having toured the Houses of Parliament earlier this month. Scouting is about good citizenship and skills for life, delivered in fun and interesting ways.

Great to speak to 1st Somersham Scouts Group and the 1st Earith, Bluntisham and Colne Scout Group last week as they pushed to achieve one of their badges.

As part of the Scout’s World Challenge award, the troops wanted to learn more about the UK’s system of government with Somersham having already visited the Houses of Parliament this term.

I was a keen scout when I was a teenager and got huge value from it, learning practical life skills and plenty of adventurous outdoor activities.

Some really fun questions from the Scouts and I was proud to receive an honorary necker from the troop.

Somersham Scouts are also raising funds to build a new Scout Hut having had to knockdown their previously condemned hut, an old WWII Nissen hut from RAF Brampton. I will try to help identify where fu ds could be provided to help them create a permanent home.

That’s 8 volunteers joining in the adventure, allowing 28 more young people to join the scouting adventure. If you want to know more about volunteering, drop us a line, or go to scouts.org.uk and hit the ‘want to join’ button. You won’t regret it.

This newly reformed group opened its doors in September with the Beavers being enrolled 1st along with eight new scout leaders.
Rotary in Ramsey were pleased to be able to support this group by funding the leader's new shirts.
The photos show some of the new Leaders, along with Sue Best, volunteer District Lead & some of the new Scouts. We wish this group the very best 🤩🤩🤩

Meet Yehor – a brave, curious 6-year-old who joined Scouts after his family fled Kyiv. He didn’t know anyone at first, but from day one, he’s shown courage, kindness and a love for adventure. With a passion for nature and a big heart, Yehor jumped into Scout life – beach cleans, ferry rides, theatre trips, cooking, crafts and more. Now a Beaver Scout, he’s not only grown in confidence, but has also helped to welcome other refugee children into the group, understanding that his new friends may be scared, lonely and unsure. Last summer, he embraced the outdoors with his family too – camping, climbing Scafell Pike, and even tackling parts of Snowdon and Ben Nevis! ‘I like Scouts as I can learn more English, make friends and have fun,’ says Yehor. He also won a well-deserved Unsung Hero Award earlier this year too. What a star. 🌟

Our thanks to Mike of Friends Of Onyett's Field who led the Warboys Beavers on a walk around the area last night, taking in the amazing display of buttercups, talking of their biodiversity plans and stopping to draw the nature that they'd spotted

A post from Frances, one of our Squirrel & Cub volunteers:

This week I had the privilege of taking part in a ‘Welcome Conversation’ — not for my own Cubs section, but to support another local group.

As a volunteer leader, it would be easy to focus just on my own group, my own Cubs & Squirrels, and my own schedule. But Scouts is bigger than that. It’s a community built on shared values, teamwork, and a belief that together we can help young people gain skills for life.

Supporting another group reminded me that volunteering isn’t just about what happens in our own halls each week — it’s about being part of something greater. It’s about stepping in, showing up, and lending a hand wherever it’s needed.

I’m proud to be part of an organisation where leaders across different groups support each other, because ultimately, we’re all working towards the same goal: helping young people grow, explore, and thrive.

If you’ve ever thought about volunteering, I can’t recommend it enough. You won’t just be giving back — you’ll be gaining so much more in return.

Our annual St George's day parade through St Ives, and renewal of promises at Berman Park takes place tomorrow, Sunday 27th April.

Not only is this a colourful spectacle, but it reminds us all why we are involved in The Scouts - to have fun, to learn skills, to help others, and much, much more.

The parade and ceremony are followed by an hour of fun activities at the Copley Scout Centre (on The Thicket Path next to Berman Park).

We would like to thank our sponsors for this year's parade, Blue Bear Self Storage, St Ives.
