We gave away some oak trees to good homes and also some house plants.
We gave way sustainable bird feeders and magic wands๐Ÿช„ made from willow donated by Holt Island Nature Reserve ๐Ÿฆ and talked to people how to help the wildlife in their Gardens.
Thanks to St Ives Town council and FESt.

Congratulations to all our newly elected HDC councilors!
Now we have elected you please take a look at this... Rotherham council planted wildflowers along verges. I noticed the verges that were not cut last year around Waveny Rd (to aid bio diversity) have been cut this year. Does this mean the experiment is over? I had heard that just leaving the glass long increased biodiversity by 30%.๐ŸŒฑ๐ŸฆŠ๐Ÿฆ”๐Ÿชฒ๐Ÿž

I hope after Thursday the newly elected town council can get the free 'Parish on line' and connect with other councils making mitigation changes for the future (maybe get help with enclosing the Slepe Field?)

Nature Recovery โ€“ From the Ground Up (NR-FGU) is a project led by Cambridgeshire County Council and Natural Cambridgeshire. It is funded by the Cambridgeshire County Council Just Transition Fund.

We tried really hard to get a headghog highway in place where we live!
So we were returning home at twilight and we met a hedgehog walking down the road. My son said to me, 'Why is he on the road?'
'Well because of the fences, there are no hedgehog highways'
So he made this, and leafleted the whole street. We now have a strip of long grass down the side of our garden and a hole in the fence where the neighbour showed us Were to make one โ˜บ๏ธ

Have you made a hole in your fence?
I wonder if it has made a difference... We haven't seen any hedgehogs walking along the road since.

Thank you for coming to our St Ives Eco Cafรฉ yesterday, where a very enthusiastic and positive group of over 30 people shared ideas for what events we and they could run in St Ives Green Week. Then we each wrote a short personal message to our MP Ben Obese-Jecty about what matters most to us โ€“ clean water, green spaces, community wellbeing, recycling etc. โ€“ ready to post in the envelope of green hearts.

St Ives Green Week ๐Ÿ’š is taking place June 13thโ€“16th!
This year weโ€™re going Wild about St Ives โ€” celebrating and supporting wildlife in our own back gardens and nearby green spaces.
Huntingdonshire District Council (HDC) have recently allowed some green spaces to grow naturally without mowing. Itโ€™s one of the easiest and cheapest ways to boost biodiversity locally โ€” and it can look beautiful too, especially if native wildflowers appear. You could even try it at home: leave a patch to grow, mow a winding path through it, and create a small space to sit and enjoy it.
Long grass isnโ€™t for everyone, and some people prefer a neat, closely cut lawn. But in the height of summer, short grass often turns brown and lifeless. When we let it grow, nature surprises us โ€” with flowers, pollinators, and all sorts of mini beasts moving in.
๐Ÿฆ” Iโ€™ll also be sharing a poll with simple garden pledges to help local critters and mammals. Let us know what you plan to try this year โ€” or what youโ€™re already doing!
Itโ€™s said youโ€™re more likely to discover a new species in your own back garden than in the Amazon rainforest โ€” so why not start looking? Donโ€™t forget to log what you spot on the iNaturalist app or 'Seek' for children.
Letโ€™s make St Ives a little wilder this June ๐Ÿ’š

๐ŸŒผFuture Bulb Planting in St Ives ๐ŸŒผ
Last spring you may have noticed lots of daffodils in St Ives. The wonderful Robin B from St Ives in Bloom has planted thousands all over the town.
๐ŸŒฑ If youโ€™d like to plant bulb on a council owned green patch near you, all you need to do is gather some neighbours, ๐Ÿ‘ฅ and email SIIB, they will see if the green patch is suitable. You bring the team and they have the equipment. We managed it in our close last year!
Everyone loves seeing the daffs bloom.

Excellent work, St Ives EcoAction and St Ives town council team for the practical work. The wild flower strips at Wheatfields were stunning this summer. ๐Ÿ๐Ÿ๐Ÿฆ‹
It's great that we will now see them near the town as well. โ˜บ๏ธ

Weโ€™re delighted to share that ๐—˜๐—ฐ๐—ผ-๐—”๐—ฐ๐˜๐—ถ๐—ผ๐—ป, working in partnership with the Town Council, has secured a grant of ยฃ1,800 from the ๐˜Š๐˜ข๐˜ฎ๐˜ฃ๐˜ณ๐˜ช๐˜ฅ๐˜จ๐˜ฆ๐˜ด๐˜ฉ๐˜ช๐˜ณ๐˜ฆ ๐˜ข๐˜ฏ๐˜ฅ ๐˜—๐˜ฆ๐˜ต๐˜ฆ๐˜ณ๐˜ฃ๐˜ฐ๐˜ณ๐˜ฐ๐˜ถ๐˜จ๐˜ฉ ๐˜๐˜ถ๐˜ฏ๐˜ฅ ๐˜ง๐˜ฐ๐˜ณ ๐˜•๐˜ข๐˜ต๐˜ถ๐˜ณ๐˜ฆ to bring vibrant wildflowers to Warnerโ€™s Park and Slepe Hall Field!

Thanks to this funding, 53mยฒ of beautiful, pre-grown and seeded turf from Pictorial Meadows will be laid on Tuesday 4th November by our Grounds Maintenance Team, creating colourful habitats that support pollinators and enhance biodiversity.

A huge thank you to Eco-Action and the Cambridgeshire Community Foundation for helping make this happen!
