On September 20th 2026 The Friends arranged a trip to The North Yorkshire Moors Railway and / or Whitby by Coach. For those who chose the optional trip on the Nort Yorkshire Moors Railway the seats were reserved and we enjoyed a lovely trip to Grosmont hauled by 9F 92134 where it was changed to class 47 No 37688 "Great Rocks" to complete the journey to Whitby. Along the route we were lucky enough to see Class A4 60007 "Sir Nigel Gresley & a fleeting glance of T3 Class No. 563. The travellers then had approximately 5 hours in Whitby where the weather was glorious before meeting the other attendees who had chosen a full day in Whitby before the Coach Journey back to Sowerby Bridge. From feedback the trip was well received with everyone enjoying a "Grand Day Out".

This is a picture of the old waiting room on Platform 2 at Sowerby Bridge Railway Station. We would like to rebuild it but in a different design... taken late 50's perhaps?

Great news! We have a new bench! And it"s next to the Telephone Box at the front of the station. It was donated by Calderdale Council. We've called it 'Joy's Bench' and we hope it will bring a lot of joy to our visitors who want to meet there or just sit and relax in the sun....

Thanks to Sponsorship from Northern we took delivery of Summer plants on Wednesday 27th May 2026 and by Friday 29th May 2026 our small but dedicated team of gardeners (they are always looking for more volunteers, so feel free to contact us if you would like to get involved) had replanted all the planters on the platforms ready for the summer blooming season.
