Why did a group of researchers spend years searching for Ann Walker?

Because the historical record was incomplete.

Ann Walker is often mentioned in relation to Anne Lister, yet much of her own life remained scattered across archives, manuscripts, estate papers, correspondence and contemporary accounts.

Recovering her story required patience, collaboration and countless hours spent in archives across the country.

Every document added another piece to the picture.

These photographs capture just a few moments from that journey, including one taken at West Yorkshire Archive Service minutes before Ann Walker's diary was recognised for what it was.

Searching for Ann Walker was built from moments like these: curiosity, persistence, collaboration, and the belief that her story was still waiting to be found.
