One of our amazing supporters, Alan, has completed an incredible five-day journey from Southend-on-Sea to John o’ Groats, travelling entirely by bus to raise money for Havens Hospices.
After leaving Fair Havens on 1st June, Alan spent five days navigating bus routes across the UK before reaching John o’ Groats on 5th June. Along the way, he faced travel delays, last-minute accommodation arrangements and the challenge of his bus pass not being accepted on some Scottish routes. Despite the setbacks, Alan's determination never wavered, and many of the people he met were inspired to donate to his fundraiser.
Having worked as a taxi driver for many years, Alan often picked up patients and families connected to the hospice and witnessed first-hand the difference its care makes to local families. He was also inspired by his daughter’s role in the care team at Fair Havens.
“The most memorable part was the help and kindness of strangers,” said Alan. “A complete stranger even arranged free accommodation for me when I was stranded in Newcastle. I was overwhelmed by that gesture.”
So far, Alan has raised an amazing £1,720 for Havens Hospices, helping the charity continue providing specialist care and support across Essex.
