Jess says: "I have a really varied role - from advising landowners and designing woodlands, to overseeing our monitoring programme and working with volunteers and partner organisations. No two days are the same, and I love that our work is making a positive difference to the landscape, as well as providing opportunities for people to get involved.

"If you want to get into this kind of work, I'd definitely advise you to volunteer with as many organisations as you can to try and figure out which areas of work suit you. Prior experience and volunteering provides you with lots of opportunities to develop your knowledge and skills."

🌳Wishing everyone a Happy World Sustainability Day!🌳

We were delighted to be chosen as a charity beneficiary for this year's HAYTOR HELLER trail run on Dartmoor! 🏃🏾‍♂️🏃‍♀️

A huge thank you to the Teignbridge Trotters Race Page, who generously donated £417 through runner entry fees and club match funding.

Our Fundraising Manager, Zoe Partridge, had a wonderful time visiting their Newton Abbot run night to accept the cheque and speak to members. She said "It was fantastic to connect with the club. When community groups team up with us like this, it directly helps us get more native broadleaf trees planted across Dartmoor."

🍎 Happy Apple Day! 🍎

Did you know that this year Moor Trees volunteers collected over 25kg of Crab Apples, that's around 1,552 apples containing more than 12,500 seeds destined to become future native trees across Dartmoor?

🌱 Our 2026 Seed Gathering Season has now come to a close, and thanks to the incredible efforts of 113 volunteers, we've collected a record 187kg of fruit and seed from 26 different species.

🌳But this year's harvest has also revealed how climate change is affecting our native woodlands, with changing fruiting times and reduced availability of some species.

🌳 Hosting the at our Dartington nursery!

We recently welcomed the Thousand Year Trust to talk about the wonder of temperate rainforests and what we're doing to help restore them. Both our organisations are focused on restoring these globally important habitats.

We spent an enjoyable afternoon showing the team around our nursery and sharing ideas and tips they can put into practice at their own nursery at Cabilla in Cornwall. We learned more about their "rainforests on ropes", an experimental project aiming to grow rainforest lichens on ropes to be moved in future into newly planted or degraded forests.

As members of the South West Rainforest Alliance, we have much to share and learn as we explore these dynamic, globally significant habitats together. We can't wait to visit Cabilla Cornwall in the New Year and see the improvements they've made to their nursery and progress on their lichen project!

🌱Join this informative workshop at our Community Tree Nursery in Dartington, near Totnes. You are invited to bring some of your own seeds to be processed by our seed cleaning machine as part of the demonstrations during the day.

🍃Do join us to chat all things tree growing as well as gain practical tips from each other on biosecurity, seed collecting and administrative requirements.

🍃It's World Habitat Day!

🌳Our fantastic volunteers spent a lovely sunny day yesterday at Venford on Dartmoor seed collecting from native trees including Rowan, Blackthorn, Hawthorn, Birch and Holly.

🌳These seeds are now back at our Community Tree Nurseries for processing. Once they germinate they'll grow into saplings and will be nurtured by our volunteers ready to create rich native woodland habitat of the future.

🌳Native trees increase biodiversity and help to breathe more life back into Dartmoor.
