🍃This week we were delighted to welcome David Fursdon to our Dartington Community Tree Nursery. David first became interested in our work during his duties as Lord Lieutenant of Devon, after meeting volunteer Jon Covey BEM at his investiture.

🌱 At the time he was leading the Independent Review of Protected Site Management on Dartmoor. Since then, much has progressed including Defra’s response to the review and the formation of the Dartmoor Land Use Management Group to lead a two‑year programme of action.

🌳During the visit, we shared how our nurseries are supporting nature recovery on Dartmoor and helping restore protected ancient woodland sites. Our Operations Manager, Dave, gave David a tour of the nursery, explaining how we work with landowners to bring their tree‑planting plans to life. We also enjoyed hearing about David’s own appreciation for trees and his favourite species.

🌳After being part of the “Moor Understanding” Sustainable South Hams day of talks on Friday, Tim and Susan braved the weather on Saturday in Victoria Park to spread the word about what we do and why we want to breathe more life back into Dartmoor.

Today is World Environment Day https://bit.ly/4x9Tt9Q and this year its focus is on climate change and the urgent signals the Earth is sending. When people volunteer with us they send a signal back to Earth that they want to act. So, we want to say a huge thank you to all our fantastic volunteers who are making a real difference by taking positive action for the climate! 🙌👥🌳👏

If you'd like to get involved by volunteering with Moor Trees, caring for native saplings in our tree nurseries, collecting seeds, monitoring tree health, or helping to plant the Dartmoor woodlands of tomorrow, head to our website! 🌱 https://bit.ly/4p0gBSO

🥾It’s Volunteers Week and we are so grateful to everyone who dedicates their time to help at our Community Tree Nurseries and out and about creating and restoring native broadleaved woodland.

🌱Volunteers help us in so many ways including at events, and this weekend you can meet Moor Trees at the Rivers & Moorland Festival in Ivybridge.

🌳We’ll be at the Watermark for Sustainable South Hams Moor Understanding on Friday 5th June with our Chief Executive, Helen Aldis, taking part in the panel discussion and Q&A with environmental campaigner and author, Guy Shrubsole, and Jess Tatton-Brown from The Woodland Trust, exploring how woodland regeneration can help reduce flooding, improve water quality, support biodiversity, and reconnect communities.

🍃We’ll be in Victoria Park, Ivybridge on Saturday 6th June and on Sunday 7th June we’d love you to visit our Community Tree Nursery at Broadley, Diptford, to have a look around and find out about volunteering with us. For more information and to book, click here: https://bit.ly/3UyDH6k
