After a wonderful bunch of events for October, we’re not quite done yet for the year! We’ve got two special events lined up before we enter 2027.

First up, a special concert on Sunday November 15th to celebrate the 180th anniversary of The Shred Church, a quaint little chapel situated just above Slaithwaite village.

For 180 years, ‘Shred’ as it’s affectionately known by locals, has continued to have a small but dedicated community of worshipers and supporters throughout it’s history. Established initially as a school for the local children of the area, it eventually became a chapel, and even to this day hosts special services and community events.

We’re delighted to welcome &Piano favourites Thom Meredith and Sarah Ogden to sing, along with two &Piano Young Musician’s Damien Stirling & Isla Jones, for what will be a fun & varied afternoon of music spanning the centuries, with a few numbers from around the time that Shred was founded!

Seats are limited for this one - in fact most tickets have already gone, so book as soon as possible for a chance to experience this fascinating building rich in history and community.

This weekend we're showcasing 11 women composers across our events - so much beautiful music from composers past and present, including F***y Hensel/Mendelssohn to Judith Weir, Lilli Boulanger to Yshani Perinpanayagam.

Even as recently as the 20th Century, Female composers were often overlooked as composers in a male-dominated world, and pioneers like Ethel Smyth, Rebecca Clarke and Elizabeth Maconchy had to work doggedly to be heard and taken seriously. Thanks to their pioneering efforts - continued by future generations, there are so many more women composing music, and being programmed too in concerts.

Maybe you're familiar with some of these names, maybe you're not...what we can guarantee is you will definitely enjoy exploring their music with us!

Introducing Beth Moxon, the amazing singer of our afternoon recital on Saturday 17th October, 3pm . Beth, accompanied by Chris on the piano, will present an incredible selection of music exclusively by female composers, such as this clip from Rebecca Clarke’s ‘June Twilight’.

Beth, a full time singer in the chorus of Opera North, was recently awarded 2nd Prize in the Rebecca Clarke Song Competition. Like what you hear? Come along and join us for an hour of wonderful songs like this that will knock your socks off!

Incase you didn’t know, we blummin’ love singing at AndPiano, and what’s better than one voice…but more than one voice! That’s why we’re really excited about our special gig with the six-piece Vivify Ensemble at North of England Centre for Music and Arts on Saturday 17th October at 7pm.

Featuring music from as far back as the 17th Century (like this little snippet by Thomas Tomkins from 1622!) right up to the present day, this is a rare chance to hear six fantastic singers singing some beautiful vocal music - one singer to each part! Announcing our &Piano Autumn Weekend 2026! 🍂🎹

Last year - not content with a week full of fantastic live music, we organised a mini Autumn-festival over one weekend in October - and because we just can’t help ourselves spreading the music love, we’re delighted to be doing the same this year! It’s an opportunity for us to invite acts or performers that we might not typically feature in one of our main festivals - visit some slightly different venues, and just generally share more of the music we love so much with you all! 🍂

On Thursday evening we’re teaming up with our fantastic sponsors A New Leaf Bookshop to provide some atmospheric French music to compliment their evening with the acclaimed author Heather Morris, author of ‘The Tatooist of Auschwitz’ to talk about her new book ‘The Piano Teacher of Montparnasse’. 📚

Then on Saturday, we’re North of England Centre for Music & Arts, first with a recital featuring Mezzo-Soprano Beth Moxon & Pianist Christopher Pulleyn, who won 2nd place in the inaugural Rebecca Clarke Song Competition held in London earlier this year. They present their find of amazing songs by English female composers including Rebecca Clarke, Judith Weir, Yshani Perinpanayagam, and Sheffield-born, Liverpool-raised Muriel Herbert. 👩‍🦳

Later in the evening, acclaimed six-piece vocal group Vivify Ensemble explore the trials and tribulations of love and relationships in a programme spanning music from the 16th Century by Claudio Monteverdi and Thomas Weelkes right up to the present day with catchy jazz classics by Cole Porter, Fats Waller & George Gershwin. 🗣️

On Sunday we’re The Civic Slaithwaite, teaming up once again with Musica Kirklees to offer a selection of their piano students the opportunity to perform on the Civic’s lovely baby grand piano. A fantastic opportunity to hear and support the next generation of pianist from the area! 🎹

Looking back at our 2026 School Recital Tour with & that we delivered around the end of last term in July, we asked our two performers on this tour what they thought about the project and it’s impact on students.

Over the week we reached around 1200 students across Kirklees & Calderdale and their engagement with us as always was brilliant. Fantastic reactions to our performances, fantastic responses to the things we asked them about!

We are extremely excited to announce this year’s evening of music and words.

International author, Heather Morris (tattooist of Auschwitz), is visiting the UK for two weeks and we are very lucky to have her visit us in Marsden.

St Bartholomew’s Church will play host to Heather, talking about her new novel, The Piano Teacher of MontParnasse on Thursday, 15th October from 6pm. Doors open at 5.30pm.

An author talk will be complimented by classic French music with Christopher Pulleyn from &Piano and vocals from Aimee Fisk.
