Happy from Repair Cafe! 🎃👻

Lamps that flicker on their own. Radios that crackle in the night. Laptops that groan every time you switch them on. Sounds like a haunting to us, but it's probably just a loose wire.

Bring your spooky afflictions down tomorrow and our fixers will see what they can exorcise. 🔧

And once the pumpkins are on the compost heap, it's only a short hop to tinsel season. 🎄 We know, we know, there's ages yet (the supermarkets disagree). But if Santa's lost his beard, the nativity donkey's lost a leg or the light-up reindeer's only got one antler working, tomorrow's a grand chance to sort them before the big day sneaks up on you.

The clocks have gone back, the nights are drawing in, and it's time to dig out the winter clobber! 🧥

Bring your coats, jumpers, gloves and scarves down on Sunday and let our sewing fixers sort them before the proper cold sets in. Holes, zips, buttons, linings, seams: all fair game.

Bringing a laptop for a Linux switch this Sunday? Here's how to make it a smooth one. 💻

✅ Back up anything precious first (photos, documents, the lot), as the switch wipes the old system clean
✅ Bring your charger
✅ Know your passwords, including the one you log in with
✅ Fill in our quick form so we know you're coming: https://slawitrepaircafe.com/linux

Our tech fixers will run Linux on your machine first, so you can see it working before anything gets changed. No surprises, just an old computer that suddenly runs like new!

Toaster only browning one side? Kettle refusing to boil? Lamp gone dark, or radio gone quiet? 🔌 Bring 'em along and we'll have a look!

While you’re at it, dig the Christmas lights out of the loft. Yes, we know: the selection boxes have only been in the shops since August, so Christmas is still a while away. But better to find the dodgy string now than at 9PM on the night you put the tree up. Bring them down and we’ll get them twinkling again. 🎄

Not handy with a screwdriver? We still want you! 🙋

Slawit Repair Cafe doesn't just run on Fixers. Our Organisers book folk in, explain how it all works, keep the waiting area cheerful and keep the kettle on the go. (Arguably the most important job in the building.)

If you can do a friendly hello and a decent brew, you're more than qualified. And if you CAN fix things, this is the place to be, so come join us!

Add your name, and help keep the climate declaration!

Please sign and share the petition to protect Kirklees' Climate Emergency Declaration!

Tomorrow's council meeting includes the motion: "Undeclaration of Climate Emergency", which involves disbanding the Environment and Climate Change Scrutiny Panel, removal of carbon reduction targets and more.

To sign, you'll need an account separate from the usual 'My Kirklees Account' login. You can sign up through the petitions page.

This petition will be heard tomorrow. Have your say and let's get the motion withdrawn!

A little insider tip from the Slawit Repair Cafe team. 🕰️

We've got so popular that waiting times can creep up a bit, especially in the first hour, which is always our busiest. The secret? Things usually quieten down later in the morning, so there's no need to be first through the door at 10 on the dot. Have another brew, wander down a bit later, and you'll often be seen quicker.

Just make sure you're with us by about 12:30, as we have to pack up promptly at 1.
