I’m incredibly proud to be working closely with All About Youth. SYA All About Youth
Having worked in youth and community for over a decade, I know firsthand just how life-changing this kind of support can be for young people and their futures.

The pain of losing Harvey never leaves me. It breaks my heart every single day knowing his future was taken from him when he still had so much life, love and potential ahead of him. We miss him every second of every day 💔

That’s why seeing young people smiling, making memories and enjoying opportunities funded by Shine On with Harvey Owen means so much to me. In those moments, Harvey’s light and legacy continue to shine through others, and that will always be something truly special.

Hi all,

We were hoping to have launched our charity raffles this week after spending over a year waiting for our official charity registration and number.

However, anyone who has set up a charity will understand there are still a few hurdles to get through behind the scenes. I was hoping to use a free online fundraising platform called Zeffy, as they take no fees and make purchasing raffle tickets much easier, but I’ve realised we need an official charity bank account before we can use it properly.

Unfortunately, we couldn’t open a charity bank account until we received our official charity number, so this is something I’m currently working on. Once everything is fully set up, we can’t wait to launch our fundraising events and give back even more to young people, helping them unlock their creative potential through Shine On.

Up until now, all of the costs involved in setting up the charity, including paying for professional help and guidance through the process, which was far more complicated than I ever imagined have come from my own pocket. Most of the money used to fund activities and opportunities for young people so far has also been our own money, simply because we believed in making a difference and wanted to start helping where we could straight away.

We receive so many messages every day asking for donations and support, and although we would genuinely love to help everyone, we are still a small business and have made the difficult decision to focus our efforts on building Shine On going forwards so we can create something sustainable and impactful long term.

Thank you so much to everyone who continues to support us, encourage us, and believe in what we’re trying to build in Harvey's memory 💛

After more than a year of waiting... Shine On with Harvey Owen is finally an officially registered charity 🎉

It’s a bittersweet moment because it still doesn’t feel real that Harvey is never coming home. Most of the time I'm in denial as a coping mechanism.
As many of you know, since losing Harvey I have campaigned for stronger road safety laws to help prevent other families from suffering the heartbreak of losing a loved one in preventable circumstances. Recently, there has been progress, with one of the key asks from my petition now entering a consultation period. There is still a long way to go, but it gives me hope that change can happen.

But I never want Harvey to only be remembered for the way he died. His life was so much more than that.

Harvey was one of the gentlest and kindest souls you could ever meet. He was thoughtful, compassionate and always noticed when someone was struggling. Music and creativity meant so much to him, and he absolutely loved his guitar lessons. Watching him grow in confidence through music was something really special.

That is exactly why Shine On with Harvey Owen was created.

The charity will help disadvantaged young people access music, creative arts activities and confidence-building opportunities that they may otherwise never get the chance to experience. At a time when so many families are struggling and arts opportunities are disappearing, I truly believe every child deserves the chance to discover what they love, build confidence and feel supported, because children are our future.

We have already donated money ourselves to begin supporting causes close to Harvey’s heart, and soon I’ll be meeting again with a local youth charity to donate a further £2,000 to help support young people in our community.

Now that we officially have charity status, we’ll also be able to organise more fundraising events, community initiatives and online raffles to continue growing Shine On with Harvey Owen and helping even more young people.

If Harvey’s legacy can help young people feel inspired, valued, supported and believed in, then his kindness and light will continue shining on through others.
Thank you all for your support

Maybe the deepest pain
isn’t their absence,
but the love that keeps
looking for them.

It stays trapped in our hands,
in the words we never said,
in the gestures we postponed
because we thought
there would be time.

We wanted to say more,
do more,
hold on a little longer.
But silence
reached us first.

And so we end up speaking into the void,
sending thoughts, kisses, prayers
without really knowing where to send them.
In the end, we learn to trust
that love knows
how to find its own way.

Those we’ve lost
are no longer before our eyes,
but they continue to live
in who we’ve become.

And maybe the bond doesn’t break:
it changes shape.
It becomes memory,
it becomes an invisible presence,
it becomes love
that no longer needs
to be seen to exist.

A very kind lady has donated this beautiful guitar.
Does anyone here work with disadvantaged young people, or know of a young person who is learning guitar (or would love to), and could really benefit from this generous donation? I can't take personal requests as it then becomes hard to choose and I'd feel unfair but if you work in a professional setting with a young person who meets the criteria please drop me a message.
The lady who donated this had a grandson called Harvey too.

💛 Shine On Fundraising & Registration Update 💛

I wanted to share an update on where Shine On with Harvey Owen is currently at, along with a clear breakdown of the funds raised so far. Thank you to everyone who has supported us, every single donation truly means so much.

Funds Raised So Far
• 1st raffle at the shop: £224
• 2nd raffle (tickets sold at the Shine On concert and in our shop): £543
• Encore (dance school) donation from their “Guess the Teddy’s Name” fundraiser: £205.96
• Collection buckets at the Shine On concert: £628.27

Total raised so far through fundraising : £2,125.46

We were informed by the organisers of the Summer food festival that, after all the costs of the evening were covered, there were no profits made from the Shine On concert. However, thanks to the incredible generosity of those who attended, we were able to collect £628.27 in the collection buckets on the night, which we are hugely grateful for.

How the money has made a difference to young people:

We are incredibly proud to share that £5,000 has already been donated to Shropshire Youth Association, who have delivered some amazing activities for young people, including:
• One-to-one art sessions with a professional artist
• Pottery classes
• Cookery classes
• Glass painting workshops

In addition to this, over £500 has been donated to The Hive in Shrewsbury, who do some truly incredible work supporting young people and their creativity.

Alongside fundraising, we also carried out a cake decorating, one off project with the children from Bowbrook School. No funds were used from
The charity for this activity, it was simply a good-will gesture carried out in the name of Shine On, and something we were very proud to be part of.

In addition to this, personal donations of over £4,000 have been made, and all administrative costs involved in setting up the charity have been personally covered, ensuring that all funds raised can go directly towards supporting young people.

Looking Ahead:

In the coming weeks, we will be meeting again with youth and community workers to explore further creative projects and opportunities to support young people through Shine On. Additional funding, raised via the JustGiving page, will be allocated once these activities have been agreed.

Once registration is fully completed and charity fundraising is in full swing, one of our key aims is to support disadvantaged individual young people to access free music lessons. To ensure this support is fair, appropriate, and reaches those who truly need it, we won’t be able to take personal requests. Instead, referrals will be made through existing professionals and organisations, who can assess eligibility and ensure young people meet the required criteria.

Registration & Fundraising Update:

We are currently awaiting official registration with HMRC. Because transparency and doing things properly really matter to me, I’ve decided to pause any further fundraising events for now until everything is fully registered.

I have so many plans for Shine On, including regular raffles and donations through the Shine On bakery, and I want to make sure it’s all done the right way.

We’re hopeful this process will be completed soon, and once it is, we’re looking forward to organising a small mini music event and continuing to keep Harvey’s light shining by supporting many more young people through creativity, music, and community.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart for all the love and continued support 💛✨

This Christmas season is a tender one for us as a family. As we remember our beautiful, forever 17-year old Harvey , who's life was tragically taken far too soon, we hold him close in our hearts. He should be here laughing, dreaming, and celebrating the future ahead of him and his absence is felt every single day.

This charity was created in his memory, but more than that, it was created to carry his spirit forward. His kindness, his energy, his compassion, and his ability to make others smile live on through the work we do together.

At Christmas, a time of love and togetherness, we want to thank every single person who has supported this page, through donations, messages, shares, or simply by remembering him. Your kindness means more than words can ever express.

While our hearts carry grief, they also carry gratitude. Gratitude for a son who changed our lives forever, and for a community that helps turn unimaginable loss into something that can help others.

From our family to yours, we wish you peace, love, and gentle moments this Christmas. Please hold your loved ones close and thank you for helping keep Harvey's light shining. 🤍

As many of you know, in 2023 I lost my beautiful 17-year-old son, Harvey. My world completely fell apart and for a long time I never imagined I would return to the bakery.

It took around 14 months to start slowly finding my way back. What kept me going was knowing how proud Harvey was of the business. In fact, it was making Harvey and Yasmin’s birthday cakes that first ignited my love of baking, which later grew into the business you all know today.

Harvey had big dreams and one day wanted to run his own little deli. When the opportunity came up for this new shop, our original plans didn’t quite fit the space, so instead it will follow a similar setup to what we already do, something I know Harvey would have loved.

Many of you will also know that I have set up a charity called Shine On with Harvey Owen (currently in the process of official registration with HMRC). So far, most of the money raised has come from our own personal donations, but once everything is officially set up we plan to hold fundraisers throughout the year.

The charity supports disadvantaged young people to access music and creative activities, helping them build skills and confidence, something I know the importance of through years of working in youth and community projects.

Where possible, this shop will also support the charity through raffles, fundraising initiatives, and, if successful, donating a portion of profits, allowing Harvey’s light to continue to shine and help others.

A huge thank you to SYA – All About Youth for the incredible work you have been doing so far, ensuring 100% of donated funds go directly to supporting young people.

Thank you all for your continued support

Above is the plan for the signage. We are aiming to open at the beginning of February. The new shop will be next to the Blind Tiger in town. There is a car park right opposite with 15 mins free parking
