October Highlights: Celebrating a New Chapter

As October comes to a close, we’re looking back on one of the most memorable moments of the month: the relaunch of our Headway Hub.

It was a special day filled with smiles, meaningful conversations and a shared sense of excitement as we celebrated this important new chapter for Headway Shropshire. More than just a relaunch, it was a celebration of our people, our community and our continued commitment to supporting people living with brain injuries.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who helped make the day so special, including our guests, supporters, partners, staff and everyone who contributed to the celebration. We’re also incredibly grateful to those who generously donated raffle prizes and helped make the occasion even more memorable.

There are so many people to thank, and while we may not be able to mention everyone individually, please know how much we appreciate every contribution, kind gesture and show of support.

This new chapter would not be the same without you. Together, we’re continuing to build a welcoming space where people can connect, find support and move forward together.

Here are a few highlights from a day we’ll remember with pride.

At the Headway Hub, we value opportunities for our clients to express themselves, explore their interests and enjoy activities that bring a sense of achievement and fulfilment.

Every project is unique, and it is wonderful to see creativity taking shape, one step at a time.

Could you help someone build confidence, maintain their independence and enjoy the things that matter to them?

Headway Shropshire is recruiting Community Support Workers for our Acquired Brain Injury Community Services (ABICS), supporting adults living with acquired brain injuries to live as independently as possible in their own homes and communities.

No previous care experience is needed. What matters most is your compassion, positive attitude and willingness to learn. We’ll provide full training and ongoing support to help you grow into the role.

What we offer:

⭐ £13.00–£13.50 per hour
⭐ Full-time and part-time opportunities
⭐ Permanent contracts up to 36 hours
⭐ Full training and ongoing support
⭐ Paid travel time and 45p per mile
⭐ £10 monthly mobile phone allowance
⭐ Medicash healthcare plan

📍 Opportunities across Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin and surrounding areas.

🚗 A full UK driving licence and access to a car are essential.

More Than a Donation, A Real Difference to People's Lives

Last Friday, 23 October, we were delighted to attend the Nescliffe Young Farmers’ Harvest Supper Ball, where we were presented with a generous £1,000 donation in support of Headway Shropshire.

We cannot thank everyone at Nesscliffe Young Farmers enough for their kindness and generosity. Your support will help us continue to be there for people affected by brain injury, as well as their families and carers across Shropshire.

A special thank you to Lorna, who delivered such a heartfelt speech, sharing her own experience of brain injury and the life-changing impact it can have. She spoke about how Headway supported her on her journey to recovery and why having the right support can make such a difference.

Lorna also highlighted the importance of raising awareness within the farming community. A brain injury can happen to anyone, whether through an accident, a fall or an unexpected medical event. The effects are not always visible, but the challenges can change someone's life in ways others may not fully understand.

Through our work, we want people affected by brain injury to know that they are not alone, that support is available, and that there is hope for the future.

Lorna Ann Walker , thank you for sharing your story so openly and helping others understand the importance of what we do.

And to Nescliffe Young Farmers, thank you for choosing to support Headway Shropshire. Your £1,000 donation means so much to us and will help make a real difference to people in our community.

100 Little Hearts, Made with Love!

This week, we delivered 100 beautifully knitted hearts to the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital, each one made with care and kindness by Lyn, a brain injury survivor who used to attend our Community Wellbeing Centre (CWC), now known as Headway Hub.

Every little heart represents the power of creativity, kindness and giving back to the community. We’re so proud of Lyn and the time and love she has put into making something so special.
