SOS Africa

SOS Africa SOS Africa invests 100% of funds in the education & training of disadvantaged South African children & youth.

The SOS Africa Children’s Charity (UK: 1188705) invests 100% of donations in the education and care of South African children with regular feedback to sponsors. Unlike larger African charities, since 2003 SOS Africa has provided disadvantaged children, from grades 1 to 12, with personal education programmes or learning support schemes tailored specifically to their needs. This holistic approach to

education enables children to break the cycle of poverty; our charity graduates are at university or in full-time employment.

If you decide to sponsor a child or donate, SOS Africa provides sponsors and donors with regular updates maintaining strong lines of communication between child and supporter. Our UK grassroots African education charity believes in the importance of transparency and reducing expenses. If you wish to donate or raise funds for children in Africa, we will provide you with feedback demonstrating the long-term impact made by your donation to South African children in need.

Last week our Gordon’s Bay Primary School children went on an exciting trip to Gordon's Bay Library📚

The very helpful and bubbly Miss Banana🍌, with her banana outfit, gave them a whole tour of the library and where they could find their favourite books.

The kids had a very fun-filled day and cannot wait to visit again very soon 🪄📖

Last week we bade farewell to outgoing SOS Africa Western Cape Trustee Sam Cooper-Evans who has stepped down from her role after 12 years.

We all greatly appreciate Sam’s commitment and dedication to our cause since we first registered as a Trust here in the Western Cape. During her tenure we have grown from supporting a handful of children to operating 5 Education Centres providing holistic education and training hundreds of children and young adults.

On her last day Matt gave Sam and her family a tour of The SOS Africa Academy in Sir Lowry’s Pass Village…

Thank you for everything Sam!

We are delighted to share the exciting news that SOS Africa's Henwhill has been offered a full scholarship by Durban High School!

Henwhill joined our Elgin Education Programme in 2019 and thrived! We watched him grow from a lovable boy into a young gentleman. We are all exceptionally proud of him and wish him well as his pursues his sporting ambitions at Durban High!

Yesterday we welcomed Chante and Hayden from Absa South Africa to the SOS Academy to chat with our first group of trainees about the importance of financial planning.

During the talk, they discussed the importance of structuring finances to ensure long term financial security. They talked about the possibility of using high interest savings accounts to ensure that money is available both in an emergency or for when trainees are looking for employment opportunities after graduation.

Lorraine and her team are constantly looking to evolve SOS Africa Training Programmes to provide students with as much holistic support as possible in preparation for the start of their exciting new careers.

💈💙Today marks the start of an exciting new initiative at SOS Africa Gordon’s Bay💈💙

Our Driver Luke shared his barbering skills by giving both Zachary and Phelo fresh haircuts. The biggest highlight… the smiles on their faces when they saw the end result! 😁😎

This is exactly what we mean when we talk about building self-esteem and boosting confidence. When our learners feel good about themselves, they stand taller, smile brighter, and begin to feel proud of who they are. 👏👏

A big thank you to the SOS Africa sponsors who funded the clippers and Luke for going the extra mile for our kids. 🙌

The SOS Africa family is growing...

It is our pleasure to introduce our new Gordon's Bay Primary School Aftercare Assistants Marlize and Mildred!

Whilst Marlize is a teacher at partner school Mondeor Eco School of Skills, Mildred is an SOS Africa graduate seeking ECD work experience before starting her degree next year. The SOS kids have already become very fond of these 2 inspirational young ladies!

A warm SOS welcome to you both!
