The Hospital Players

The Hospital Players The Hospital Players are the longest running amateur dramatics group in Scunthorpe, North Lincolnshir We are a very friendly amateur dramatics group.

The Hospital Players is the longest running amateur dramatic group in Scunthorpe, North Lincolnshire, originally opening the tabs in 1943. The Hospital Players currently put on 3 shows a year at Scunthorpe’s Plowright Theatre. As a group we pride ourselves on giving the best performances possible, but we think it's very important to have fun along the way! The Hospital Players regularly rehearse a

t the Grange Farm Community Centre in Scunthorpe. Putting on a play involves so much more than rehearsing a script. As a group we design and build our own sets; design, record and edit our own sound and lighting plot. We write, film and edit our own trailers, design the posters, source and sometimes make the costumes, and so much more! There are plenty of things to get involved with on and off the stage, and we always welcome new members to the group. So if you're looking to join a fun, exciting and friendly group then look no further. You can be as involved as you want to be! If you are interested in becoming a Hospital Player please message us on here or email [email protected]

In March we held a series of raffles in aid of the Lincs & Notts Air Ambulance in honour of our member Wal Kent, who required urgent medical care just before Christmas and for whom the air ambulance was dispatched as a precaution.

Thanks to your generosity, we were able to donate £366 to support the Air Ambulance’s lifesaving work.

Thank you to everyone who bought tickets, donated prizes or helped in any way. Your support genuinely makes a difference.

We’re very pleased to say that Wal is continuing to recover well. He is pictured here with his wife Teri, alongside members Jan Gregory and Melanie Mason, presenting the cheque.

The Vermuyden 400 project commemorates 400 years since King Charles I and Cornelius Vermuyden signed the contract to drain the Isle of Axholme.

Community group Folk ’Round ’Ere has set up The Tiddy Mun Band, bringing the story of the draining of the Isle of Axholme to life through folk‑rock music and local folklore.

The songs are inspired by Jack Gale’s 1985 play Tiddy Mun, a historical drama named after the mythical bog creature of North Lincolnshire. The play premiered in Scunthorpe in 1985 as a town production hosted by The Hospital Players.

A huge thank you to all our audiences who came along to support us, and all our cast, crew, set builders and HP members who worked so hard to bring the show to life.

We were delighted to welcome the author Peter Gordon last night who came to watch the show and met us afterwards.

Thank you again and watch this space for details of our September production!
