✨ What a wonderful way to round off the Sandgate Literary Festival! 📚🔍

From two thrilling murder mystery dinner parties written by our very own Heidi to a fantastic children’s event at St Paul’s Church with Neil Tonge, co-author of Terrible Tudors, there was something for everyone! 🕵️‍♀️🍽️

Neil brought history to life, taking the children on a fascinating journey through Sandgate in Tudor times — a brilliant way to spark young imaginations and bring our local history to life. 🏰📜

A huge thank you to Neil, everyone who took part, and all those who helped make the festival such a memorable celebration of books, storytelling, history and community. ❤️

What a fantastic way to finish — roll on the next one! 🎉📖

✨📚 DAY 4 AT SANDGATE LITERARY FESTIVAL! 📚✨

What a wonderful day of fascinating talks and inspiring stories! ❤️

We rounded off Day 4 with an absolutely stunning talk by Katherine Carter, exploring Sir Winston Churchill and his deep passion for Chartwell House. 🏡✨

This was followed by a fascinating insight into life as an RNLI lifeboat volunteer, shared by Dominic Gregory — a real eye-opener into the courage, commitment and dedication behind this incredible role! 🚤🌊

A huge thank you to our wonderful speakers and everyone who joined us. We’ve loved sharing these special moments with you! 💛

📚 And we’re not finished yet! Sandgate Literary Festival returns next weekend with more fantastic events, including Neil Tonge, co-author of Horrible Histories! 🎉

✨ What an amazing start to the Sandgate Literary Festival! 📚

A wonderful evening with the talented Ann Morgan, discussing her fascinating book about reading a book from every country in the world in a year. 🌍📖

We all learnt something new tonight and left feeling inspired by the power of books to connect us with different cultures, perspectives and stories. What a brilliant way to kick off the festival! 💛

Charlie Gallagher, Lisa Cutts & David Whitehouse

These three top writers – all with a local link – join us to talk about their individual approaches to putting true-life experiences on the page.

Charlie Gallagher worked as a police officer for 13 years before turning to a life of crime … writing. Both his Maddie Ives and George Elms series of novels are set on the south coast – many in and around Folkestone – and have been gripping readers for more than ten years.

Lisa Cutts is also a former police officer, a detective constable who investigated murders. Now she uses her insider knowledge to create twisty thrillers and baffling riddles. She has written four novels in the East Room Incident series, and two novels featuring DC Nina Foster. She is currently three books into the Little Challham series, set in a fictional village in Kent.

David Whitehouse has written scripts for FX, Channel 4, Sky, CBS and ITV. His first novel, Bed, won the Betty Trask Prize and his second, Mobile Library, won the Jerwood Fiction Prize. His book Saltwater Mansions, published last year, blends reportage and memoir to investigate the real-life case of a missing Margate woman. The Telegraph called it ‘genre bending genius’.

The Cloth Hall of Ypres stands as one of medieval Europe’s great civic monuments — a vast Gothic complex made up of the covered cloth halls, the Nieuwerck, and the city’s proud belfry tower. Built between roughly 1250 and 1378, it embodied the power, prosperity, and ambition of Ypres, a leading cloth‑making centre whose wealth shaped the region for centuries.
Today, the building’s scale and craftsmanship still speak to that era when Ypres’ civic identity and economic strength were woven directly into the fabric of its architecture.
