St Dennis Band is extremely proud of its heritage with early records traced to the mid 19th Century, believed to have been formed in 1838 as part of the festivities in connection with the Coronation of Queen Victoria it has continued to function by voluntary contributions up to the present time. Contest successes include 2nd Section National Champions at Crystal and Alexander Palaces in 1928 and 1

938. In the Championship Section they have been eleven times The West of England Champions, and gained sixth place in The Royal Albert Hall at the 1978 National Finals. During the sixties the Band played at the British Open Contest at Belle Vue on three occasions. At The West of England Bandsmens Festival (Bugle) they have been The Royal Trophy winners on 29 occasions including five hat tricks. The Band has experienced highs and lows during its existence and following a decline in the mid 1990โ€™s showed the determination that has always been present, concentrating their efforts on Youth which paid dividends, progressing from a group of young inexperienced players to the mature Band of the present day. The Band has qualified for the National finals five times in the last decade rapidly moving up through the sections where they have now reached the Championship Section.

๐ŸŽบ St. Dennis Band Announcement ๐ŸŽบ

Two years ago, Dawson Holloway made the move from Michigan ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ to Cornwall ๐Ÿ‡ฌ๐Ÿ‡ง to work with the Cornish Seal Sanctuary โ€” and during that time he also joined us on BBb bass, becoming a valued part of the St. Dennis Band family.

Dawson has always had a lifelong ambition to join the Peace Corps, and weโ€™re excited (and a little sad!) to share that heโ€™s now heading off to Moldova ๐Ÿ‡ฒ๐Ÿ‡ฉ to take up a role in Community and Organisational Development.

Dawson, thank you for your music, your sense of humour, and your friendship. Youโ€™ll be greatly missed by us all, and we wish you every success in this next chapter of your journey.๐Ÿซถ

Donโ€™t forget us โ€” and keep the BBb spirit going wherever you are! ๐ŸŽถโœจ

Join us in wishing Dawson the very best for his new adventures ๐Ÿ’™

Back home again after a great weekend in Birmingham for the Grand Shield section of the British Open Spring Festival! ๐ŸŽถ

We were proud to perform Star Crossed Lovers by Stephen Roberts, and felt we truly captured the atmosphere and storytelling of Prokofievโ€™s Romeo and Juliet ballet that inspired the piece. A performance we can all be really proud of.

While a 16th place out of 20 wasnโ€™t quite the result weโ€™d hoped for, thatโ€™s the nature of contesting โ€” and it certainly doesnโ€™t take away from the effort, commitment, and our performance on stage.

A huge thank you to our supporters, our dedicated band members, and our Musical Director Darren R Hawken for all the hard work that went into this performance. We had a brilliant weekend together as a team, musically and socially ๐ŸŽถ๐Ÿ›๐Ÿป

Congratulations to Milnrow Band and Hepworth Band on their 1st and 2nd places and qualification for this yearโ€™s British Open ๐Ÿ‘

Also a big well done to our friends at Camborne Town Band on their 8th placing in the Grand Shield, and Roche Brass on 5th placing in the Senior Trophy ๐Ÿ‘

Next up: the 100th West of England Bandsmen's Festival on Saturday 20th June!
