will be one of the charity recipients of the trolley dash at Waitrose, Rushden this December. Please be generous and help raise funds for them by buying tickets for this event. We will be selling tickets at Higham Sparkle.

After her husband Steven was diagnosed with stage three bowel cancer, Sue Phelps said Maggie's at Northampton General Hospital provided support when she needed it most.

The charity says more than 5,000 visits have been made since it opened in October 2025.

Arthur Wright – 50 Years of Rotary Service
At our Club Meeting on October 13 th , we were delighted to celebrate a 50 year
Service Award given to Rotarian Arthur Wright. Arthur joined the Rotary Club of
Rushden on October 1 st , 1976, and retained Full Membership until being made an
Honorary Member on July 1 st 2024.
Since joining the Club, Arthur has held a significant number of positions including
 Club President 1989/90
 Club Council Member 1980/81; 1984/85; 1987/89
 Chair of International, Club Service and Community Service Committees
 Club Foundation Officer 1985/86
 Rotaract Chair 1987/88
 Served on Group Study and Youth Exchange programmes.
 District 1070 Club Representative 1989 – 1997
 Paul Harris Fellow July 2017
This is without doubt a long and distinguished Rotary career, and with his
commitment to the Rotary cause, Arthur typifies the true Rotary spirit of “Service
Above Self”.

We were delighted to welcome Rtn Ali Cowell to our club as speaker on Wednesday. She spoke about her Nepalese friends Balaram, Sarki and Pasang. They travelled 14 hours to the remote school and used the £300 donation to buy materials for preparing and painting two classrooms for grade 3 and 4 children. The students and teachers watched the boys work, and Balaram said they saw happiness on the students’ faces as their classrooms were painted.

The project took 4 days and yielded amazing results. One of our members made a personal donation, allowing them to return and paint the rest of the school block.

On Friday November 6th we will be holding a fundraiser in aid of Alisson's project with Club for the Nepal Schools project, Ali will be visiting Nepal in a few weeks time to continue this work. the evening will feature Lincoln Noel as per the poster. Please support this event.

Race Night Oct 26
On October 9th, some 90 Rotarians and their guests attended the annual Rotary Race
night at Irchester Bowls Club. And what a night it turned out to be.....
The night consisted of 8 filmed horse races where people were able to purchase and
name their horses then there was a 9th race with horses being auctioned off to the
highest bidder. Rotarian Anton Rudgalvis was the highest bidder for the final race
and succeeded in actually winning the race on a horse called “Lukie Pukie”. Well
done Anton……well actually well done Ian Smith because the generous bet that Anton
placed was in fact monies donated by Ian Smith who could not be there on the night.
Ian has subsequently donated all his winnings too so a really big Rotary “thank you”
goes to Ian.
We all enjoyed a fish and chip supper midway through the evening – which was very
welcome to calm the nerves of the big spenders.
A big thank you to the race sponsors Sidey Design Associates, Anton & Sue
Rudgalvis, Ian Smith, Glenis Haynes, Home Instead, Wilson Browne, Tony Bathurst
and Richard & Carol Massey plus all those Members who assisted before, during and
after the event.
And the best thing.....we raised £1765.00 on the night which will be used to help
finance the Community and Youth Services 2026/27 programme at our Club.
Evenings like this demonstrate how The Rotary Club of Rushden puts the “fun” into
fundraising.
