❤️ Our very special Penny – a little lifesaver! ❤️
Some of you may remember Penny, who was born here at Border Collie Trust on New Year's Eve. We've shared her story before, including the difficulties she's faced with her eyes, which sadly resulted in her having one eye removed.
Despite everything, Penny has continued to enjoy life to the full, and we've loved hearing about her adventures in her new home.
But we've recently received an update from her owner that really stopped us in our tracks. It seems this very special little collie may have saved her owner's life.
We won't give too much away, as Vicky tells the story far better than we could, but it's a wonderful reminder of just how remarkable our dogs can be.
We think you'll agree that Penny is one very special girl. ❤️🐾
"Sorry we haven't written in a while life's been slightly testing but if Penny has noticed she's taken it all in her stride and except for some barking she's been very good about everything around her. But that's not why I'm writing I wanted you to be as proud of her as I am.
Last week we went out for our morning walk, it's normally around an hour unless we meet people in which case it's allot longer as Penny greats everyone she can with enthusiasm and any dog she can with joy. This one walk was different; we start our walk over the park then move into woodlands, it's peaceful and relaxing, all of a sudden Penny went off the path, she was insistent this was the way to go, I knew the path she chose lead back to a housing estate and then the park. I didn't want to cut her walk short but she was adamant so I followed her lead. About halfway home I knew why, my blood sugar and blood pressure tanked, my temperature dropped and I nearly hit the floor but we were able to get home before I had a seizure.
She's seen seizures before and I'll be honest I don't know what she does during them but when I came to there she was next to me. She moved closer and lay on me when I was awake. Penny could very well have saved my life, had we still been on the walk I could have knocked my head and not been found for hours as while we walk a path we have never seen anyone else on it. I like it as it's a chance to unplug and unwind, Penny because she can run and sniff. No one knew we were out, why would they or where we were exactly but she knew when the was a problem and what to do.
I wanted you to know you didn't give me a puppy you have me an angel, she hides it well sometimes but when people say a rescue dog saved them it's true.
Sending lots of puppy kisses
Vicky and Penny
