๐ŸŒž Calling Children's Activity Providers, Entertainers & Community Organisations! ๐ŸŒž

Community Volunteers Wales is currently planning a programme of fun, engaging and affordable activities for local children and families during the Summer Holidays at The Sycamore Centre and other community venues.

We would love to hear from organisations, businesses, artists, performers and activity providers who may be interested in collaborating with us.

We're particularly interested in activities such as:

๐ŸŽค Music Workshops
๐Ÿฅ Drumming Sessions
๐ŸŽจ Arts & Crafts
๐ŸŽญ Drama & Performing Arts
๐Ÿงช Science & STEM Activities

We're especially keen to offer children something a little differentโ€”activities they may not normally have the opportunity to experience.

If you deliver engaging sessions for children and young people and would like to explore a partnership, please get in touch. Whether you're an established organisation, a local business, a freelancer or a community group, we'd love to have a conversation.

๐Ÿš— VOLUNTEER DRIVERS NEEDED ๐Ÿš—

Over the last two weeks, Community Volunteers Wales has seen more than double the usual number of requests for our Transport to Health service.

Every day, local people rely on our volunteers to help them attend hospital appointments, GP appointments, clinics, treatment sessions and other essential healthcare appointments.

As demand continues to grow, we urgently need more volunteer drivers to join our friendly team.

By volunteering just a couple of hours a week or a month, you could help someone access vital healthcare that they may otherwise struggle to reach.

We are looking for people who:
โœ… Hold a full driving licence
โœ… Are friendly, reliable and community-minded
โœ… Can spare a few hours when available

We have 2 vehicles; a 7 seater and a 16 seater. Or if you prefer, you can use your own vehicle (fuel costs will be reimbursed).

A D1 licence is preferable but not essential.

Mileage expenses are reimbursed, and full support will be provided.

If you've ever thought about volunteering, this is a fantastic opportunity to make a real difference in someone's life.

To register your interest, please complete our volunteer registration form:

Please help us spread the word by liking, commenting and sharing this post.

Together, we can help ensure nobody misses an important health appointment because they have no way of getting there. โค๏ธ

๐Ÿ’œ PLEASE HELP US SHARE THIS ๐Ÿ’œ

Grief can be one of the loneliest journeys we face.

Starting on Thursday 11th June, a new bereavement support group, Companions in Loss, will be meeting at The Sycamore Centre in Ty Sign.

This friendly and informal Bereavement Cafรฉ offers a safe space for anyone who is grieving the loss of someone important to them. Whether your loss was recent or many years ago, whether you wish to talk, listen, or simply be in the company of others who understand, you will be warmly welcomed.

๐Ÿ“… Second Thursday of every month
โฐ 12:00pm โ€“ 1:30pm
๐Ÿ“ The Sycamore Centre, Thistle Way, Ty Sign, Risca

โ˜• Enjoy a cuppa in a relaxed and confidential environment
๐Ÿ’œ Share your experiences, or simply listen
๐Ÿ’œ No pressure, no judgement, just understanding and support
๐Ÿ’œ Run by caring volunteers with experience of bereavement

There is no need to book. Just come along.

Please help us reach those who may benefit from this group. Not everyone experiencing grief will see this post themselves.

๐Ÿ™ Please share this post.
๐Ÿ™ Share it with local groups, churches, workplaces and community organisations.
๐Ÿ™ Pass it on to friends, neighbours and family members who may know someone struggling with loss.

A simple share could help someone find support at exactly the right time.

As we celebrate the completion of the purchase of The Sycamore Centre, we also want to take a moment to recognise and thank some of the incredible people who helped make this happen.

Projects like this are never achieved alone. Behind the scenes are countless conversations, meetings, challenges, encouragement and people willing to believe in a vision for stronger communities.

We are particularly grateful to Cllr Philippa Leonard, who spent countless hours helping us navigate the funding process and supporting this journey every step of the way.

Thank you also to Jamie Pritchard, Leader of Caerphilly County Borough Council, and Ed Edmunds, Chief Executive of CCBC, both of whom supported the vision and potential of this project from the very beginning.

We are hugely appreciative of the continued support from Cllr Robert Owen, who has championed the work of Community Volunteers Wales since the earliest days, and Cllr Nigel George, whose support throughout this process has been unwavering.

We would also like to sincerely thank Ben Winstanley, Vickie Julian, Allan Dallimore and Paul Hudson, along with their respective teams within CCBC, for their guidance, professionalism and support throughout the process.

We are equally grateful for the encouragement and visits from Ruth Jones MP and our valued partners at Platfform for the Community, Helen Wales, Sneha Salel and Laura Green โ€” whose belief in community-led support continues to inspire our work.

Finally, thank you to our fellow trustees Dr David Platt, Rev Robin Grayson, Mark Tudor and Cat Dowden-King for their commitment, support and belief in what this community can achieve together.

The Sycamore Centre belongs to the community, and this achievement reflects the power of partnership, collaboration and people coming together with a shared purpose.

Thank you all for helping us secure the future of this important community space.
