International Overdose Awareness Day is an opportunity to raise awareness of how we can prevent drug-related overdose. The campaign also aims to remember those lost to drug overdose and break down the stigma that may stop people from accessing support.

This year’s theme is: 25 years on. Still needed.

You can learn more about synthetic drugs on our website:

Myth Monday

You don’t have to be taking drugs every day for it to be an issue, either. Dependence on a drug can be physical, psychological or both.

You might have noticed that you can’t do everyday things without using first, or maybe you have experienced some kind of withdrawal when you’re not using.

Other people might have seen a change in your behaviour, or you might have started taking risks that put your health or safety in danger.

Whatever the reason, change is possible with the right support.

We don't tell you that you have to stop or cut down unless you want to.

We can provide support and guidance to learn how to be safe with your drug or alcohol use.

Myth Monday

Never leave your friend alone. If they pass out and are breathing, try to wake them.

Put them in the recovery position

Call for an ambulance. You never know what they have taken and they may be having an overdose.

Myth Monday

Any amount of drug use can be harmful.

The best way to stay safe around drugs is to not take them.

But if you do use you should follow this advice

Start low and go slow - it's hard to know strengths of drugs or if anything else has been mixed in. Everyone has different tolerances.

Don't use alone

Don't mix with other drugs and alcohol. Even over the counter medication can change the effects.

Know the signs of overdose.

Test your drugs so you know what you are taking.

Understand what effects you can expect from the drug you are using.

Don't share equipment and keep it clean.

For more advice and guidance on a specific drug get in touch.

Myth or truth

Just because your friends don’t appear to have negative side effects from the drugs they take, doesn’t mean they don't.

Everyone has different tolerances and they can change over time.

Long term effects can occur after prolonged use.

It’s important to learn about the substances you want to take, short term and long term effects and how to stay safe while using them.

DerbyshireCGL can provide non-judgemental free advice and guidance about alcohol and substances.
