A Wonderful Week at Holy Trinity Community Café Rhyl and a Look Ahead to Next Week

What a fantastic week we have had at Holy Trinity Community Café Rhyl.

On Monday we were delighted to welcome the lovely Diane from Asda, who spent the whole day with us. Diane organised a fun “Asda Price Quiz” where everyone had to guess which items were the most expensive. There was plenty of laughter, friendly competition and some great prizes to be won. Even better, all of the items used in the quiz were kindly donated to the café afterwards. It was lovely to spend time chatting with Diane over lunch and enjoying her company throughout the day.

Last week was also National Volunteers’ Week, and Reverend Janet and I decided that rather than opening the café, we should celebrate our wonderful volunteers by joining a mystery coach trip organised by Voel Coaches. We booked 20 seats and set off with absolutely no idea where we were going or when we would be back.

Our first stop was the seaside, but not in Wales. We arrived in New Brighton on the Wirral. We were incredibly lucky with the weather and managed to avoid the rain completely. Some of us even rolled up our trousers and paddled in the sea. We collected shells and crab legs, enjoyed a stroll along the promenade and even had the opportunity to chat with a film crew who were filming aerial drone footage nearby. After enjoying a meal together, it was back onto the coach for the next surprise destination.

Our second stop was West Kirby, where many of us enjoyed an ice cream and a wander around the town. A quick visit to Morrisons for a comfort break soon turned into coffee, cake and more chatting before it was finally time to head home after a wonderful day out together. It was a lovely opportunity for people to relax, socialise and make new memories.

Looking Ahead to Next Week

Next week is National Carers Week, and we are pleased to welcome representatives from Newcis, who will be joining us to talk about the support they provide to carers.

If you care for someone at home, or know someone who does, please come along and find out what help and support is available. You are welcome to stay all day or simply pop in for part of the session. Everyone is welcome.

At Holy Trinity Community Café Rhyl we pride ourselves on being a warm, friendly and inclusive space. We have wheelchair access, and we are always happy to rearrange seating to ensure everyone is comfortable. Whether you come for information, companionship, a cup of tea or simply a chat, you will always receive a warm welcome.

On Tuesday we will be enjoying another of our popular arts and crafts sessions with Cath and Kat. There is always something creative and interesting to try, and we are looking forward to seeing what they have planned this time.

So why not come along and join us for a fun, informative and friendly couple of days? There is always plenty of laughter, good company and a warm welcome waiting for you at Holy Trinity Community Café Rhyl. We look forward to seeing you there.

Many of you know Paula through her work in the community, but outside of the café and community projects she has another passion that has been a huge part of her life for a few years – theatre.

Over the past few months, Paula has been directing a one-act play called Funeral in Barebones, written by Kim Hirst. We are incredibly proud to share that the production has successfully reached the Welsh Final of the One Act Play Festival.

The finals are being held at Theatre Colwyn on Friday 5th June and Saturday 6th June. Our performance is on the Friday evening at 6pm and will be the second of three plays performed that night.

As anyone involved in theatre will tell you, having an audience makes all the difference. Knowing there are people behind you, supporting you, laughing, crying, and sharing the experience is what makes live theatre so special. Your encouragement and support mean more than you could imagine.

If you would like to come along and support Paula, the cast, and everyone involved in the production, tickets for the evening are £15. Tickets are available either on the theatre website or on the evening from the box office.

Whether you’re a regular theatre-goer or simply want to support a local production that has made it all the way to the Welsh Finals, we would love to see you there.

Please wish Paula and the cast the very best of luck as they represent Rhyl on the Welsh stage!

What an absolutely amazing day we had at Holy Trinity Community Café Rhyl for the free Family Fun Day event.

Over 200 adults, children and families from all over the town came together to enjoy a wonderful day of fun, laughter, information and community spirit. I’m sure we even welcomed a few holiday makers along the way who joined in the celebrations too.

A massive thank you to every single agency, organisation, volunteer and supporter who attended and helped make the day such a huge success. Seeing so many groups come together for the good of the community was truly heartwarming.

A very special shout out must go to the amazing team at ClwydAlyn for their organisation, hard work and support throughout the day. Their team worked tirelessly erecting all the stalls, tables, chairs and equipment and then somehow managed to pull everything back down again in record time. By the time they had finished clearing away, you genuinely would never have known such a big event had taken place in the grounds. Absolutely outstanding.

And finally… thank you to Mother Nature for giving us the most perfect weather we could have wished for.

Days like this remind me just how special our town really is. I’m so proud of Rhyl. Whatever others may say, Rhyl truly is the jewel in the crown of Wales.

Also during the clean up a set of keys were found in the grounds. They are safe in the café, so if you think they may belong to you please get in touch and we will make sure they are returned safely.

Thank you everyone

Weekly Round-Up from Holy Trinity Community Café Rhyl

The weekly round-up is a little late this week — and yes, I know! But I wanted to make sure everyone could hear about the very special event happening this Wednesday.

On Wednesday 27th May from 11am till 2pm, lots of local agencies and community groups will be coming together to give the people of Rhyl a completely free family day out. There will be free food, entertainment for the children, and information and support for parents and families. It promises to be a fantastic community day and we hope to see lots of familiar faces there.

Last week was Dementia Awareness Week, so we started the week by welcoming our local nursing home, Preswylfa, to the café. They brought along information, poems, a little quiz, and of course a game of bingo, which everyone thoroughly enjoyed.

On Tuesday, the lovely Becky came along to get our minds working and our bodies moving with our monthly Love to Move session. There’s always a giggle to be had and a song to sing along to along the way.

Gill from ClwydAlyn also popped in to finalise the planning for Wednesday’s big event. I mentioned that the grass would need cutting so we could make sure the church grounds were clean, tidy, and free from dog mess and rubbish before everyone arrived.

Well, Gill got straight on the buzzer to Brighter Futures and, as if by magic, the very next day they turned up with lawnmowers and blowers. In no time at all the grounds were looking beautiful.

Which was very lucky for us because this week’s weather is looking amazing! That means when we host the second Boccia Tournament at the café on Tuesday, we should be able to hold it outside in the church grounds rather than indoors.

As always, thank you to everyone who continues to support the café, attend the activities, volunteer their time, and help make Holy Trinity Community Café Rhyl such a welcoming place for the community.

And once May is out of the way, we already have a fun and information-packed June lined up at Holy Trinity Community Café Rhyl. We have guest speakers, community groups, quizzes, craft activities, wellbeing sessions, games, and plenty of opportunities for people to come together, make friends, and try something new. There really is something for everyone, and we are looking forward to another busy month full of laughter, friendship, support, and community spirit.

As always, thank you to everyone who continues to support the café, attend the activities, volunteer their time, and help make Holy Trinity Community Café Rhyl such a welcoming place for the community.

PLEASE NOTE THAT THE CAFE WILL BE CLOSED ON TUESDAY 2ND JUNE BUT WILL STILL BE OPEN FOR COLLECTION OF WELL FED MEALS AND MENS SHED. ALL THOSE THAT WILL BE ATTEND THE MYSTERY COACH TOUR PLEASE ARRIVE BETWEEN 8AM AND 8.30AM THE COACH WILL BE LEAVING AT 8.45AM
