Active Prospects We enable people with learning disabilities, physical/mental health needs, and autistic people to live full, aspiring lives 🤗

Active Prospects’ purpose is to enable people to lead aspiring lives. Our vision is to become an outstanding organisation and to deliver significant impact for our people and communities, through creativity, co-production, and investment. We provide high-quality impactful supported living, residential and community services, activities, and employment, for people with learning disabilities and autism, physical and mental health needs across South East England. Employment skills development and volunteering opportunities are offered through our Aspiring Prospects scheme, giving young people with special educational needs and disabilities.

From helping shape accessible books to celebrating their launch at the House of Lords.

Michael, Leanne and Helen joined Beyond Words to mark the publication of their 79th and 80th titles, two new books exploring online safety and grooming.

Books Beyond Words uses pictures to help people understand and discuss important subjects.

Michael and Leanne have contributed to several titles over the years, sharing their lived experience alongside others, to help make the books clear and accessible for everyone.

We asked colleagues to share what Black History Month means to them and tell us about the culture, traditions and experiences that have shaped who they are.

Belonging is about more than celebrating one event. It means listening to people, recognising their roots and creating a culture where everyone feels valued and safe to be authentically themselves.

This week, our annual Black History Month event brought people from across Active Prospects together for an afternoon filled with music, cultural dress, conversation and plenty of dancing.

It was wonderful to see colleagues sharing their cultures, celebrating one another and enjoying the day together.

These moments matter. Belonging means feeling valued, seeing your identity celebrated and being safe to show up as your authentic self.

Throughout October, we will continue the conversation by introducing members of our teams and hearing what Black History Month means to them.

Thank you to everyone who helped organise the event and joined the celebration. A special thank you to the Mayor of Reigate and Banstead, Councillor Nick Harrison, and ACD-Arts Ltd for filling the room with music, energy and joy.

New referrals are now open for our Active Wellbeing Coaching Programme.

“It doesn’t make you any less than anyone else. It just means that you see the world in a different way—a unique way.”

In this video, Brad speaks about receiving his autism diagnosis and what working with Joe, an Active Wellbeing Coach, has meant for him.

Brad’s coaching starts with what matters to him. Together, Brad and Joe have explored his goals and found approaches that suit his individual needs.

Their conversation shows why personalised support begins with listening to the person—not making assumptions about what they need.

Active Wellbeing is now welcoming new referrals for autistic and neurodivergent adults with mental health needs, living in the South East.

Active Wellbeing was co-produced with people who have lived experience. Thanks to two further years of funding from The National Lottery Community Fund, we can now offer this support to more people.

A new home for birds, 60,000 steps in one day and a screen-free game of cards — just some of the ways people have taken part in Active Prospects Green Week.

Michael helped put a birdhouse in his garden to provide a safe place for local birds and support biodiversity. Our Brighton team chose bulbs to plant ready for spring, while other people and teams spent more time outdoors and held meetings in the fresh air.

There have also been furniture swaps, fewer car journeys and plenty of walking. One team walked 12 miles between them, while another reached an amazing 60,000 steps in a single day!

Our second Green Week has shown that being greener can also bring people together, support wellbeing and make a positive difference to the places we call home.

The week may be ending, but our aim is to turn these small changes into habits that create lasting impact.

What a Sunday at !

Together, our runners, supporters and local community helped us raise an amazing ÂŁ1,300 for Active Prospects.

Thank you to everyone who cheered on Team Active Prospects, sponsored a runner, entered our LEGO raffle or stopped at our stall to learn more about what we do.

The warmth and community spirit throughout the Event Village made the day one to remember. It was also brilliant to meet runners who were already interested in supporting us next year.

Congratulations to Jessica Mugwambi, who has won Manager of the Year at the inaugural Brighton & Hove Care Awards!

Jessica leads our brilliant Brighton team with inclusion, positivity and a strong belief in every person’s potential.

Together, the team supports people who previously spent long periods in institutional settings to live more independently, pursue their aspirations and achieve their goals.

This has included helping people join local steel bands, make their first-ever journey by train and share peer support with others.

Jade Vallance, Director of Care at Active Prospects, said:
“In my eyes, everyone who works in social care is a hero. I am incredibly proud of Jessica, our Brighton team and everyone across the sector who makes a difference every single day.”

Jessica’s award celebrates her outstanding leadership while also reflecting the dedication of the whole Brighton team.
