St Mark's Overseas Aid Trust

St Mark's Overseas Aid Trust St Mark's Overseas Aid Trust (SMOAT) is a registered UK charity (No. 280091). We do this through:

1. Raising awareness within our community.
3.

We have links to St Mark’s Anglican Church Reigate but are non-denominational with many supporters from different religious and secular backgrounds. St Mark's Overseas Aid Trust (SMOAT) works to relieve poverty in the developing world. Local fund raising for carefully selected self-help projects for the poorest.
2. Sponsoring young people in relief work. Now I’m our 41st year, we have supported su

stainable projects in many countries including Nepal, Zambia, Tanzania, Malawi, Kenya, Bangladesh and Myanmar. The projects we support are designed to help people become self-sufficient. Projects we have supported in recent years include:

• A comprehensive programme for a village in Bangladesh providing clean water, medical care, nutritional and motherhood support;
• Help for 7000 of the poorest rural farmers in Nepal to improve their produce and income;
• Funding tool kits and sterilisers used for dental support in Tanzania ;
• A bee-keeping project in Zambia;
• Eco-stove and briquette businesses in Malawi;
• The purchase of a drilling kit for a manual drilling team, giving access to safe water in remote areas of Zambia and funding repairs to broken wells. We raise funds to support these projects through a combination of events and regular donations.

Smoat is delighted to donate £1,800 following our amazing musical SMOATATHON event to IMPACT Foundation.

The funding will be used to provide health services via The Lake Clinic, who are dedicated to improving the lives of disadvantaged children living on the Tonlé Sap Lake in northern Cambodia.

The Child Health Programme provides clinic and community health services, working closely with schools. Children benefit from health education, oral health education, improved dental health and improved nutrition by establishing home gardens.

The Child Health Initiative enables our outreach team to take action in impoverished villages, providing health checks to spot conditions that could cause disability in children under five, as well as establishing Mothers Clubs to promote health awareness, improve nutrition and improve sanitation.

Smoat funding will support services and kitchen gardens in four schools and reach hundreds of children. 🌏🌱🇰🇭🩺

SMOAT is delighted to donate £2040 to Zambia Orphans Aid UK - ZOA-UK to build a solar water pump for the Twavwane Community School.

Established in 2003 by local social workers, this school serves a population of 7,500 people where there is no state funded school. The school supports many malnourished and HIV+ pupils.
The pump will allow safe water and sanitation in an area where there are frequent power shortages.
