Equal People Performing Arts

Equal People Performing Arts Equal People Performing Arts charity was created in a disused mushroom shed in 2006 by the founder of Mushroom Theatre Company (MTC), Penni Bubb.

Registered charity (est'd 2006) to promote inclusion in the Performing Arts; now also providing a fully inclusive performing arts studio centre serving South East Essex, where disabled and non-disabled children and adults can work together. The intention was to create a fully inclusive dance, drama and theatre space in South East Essex where children and adults with and without additional needs co

uld come together to enjoy the performing arts as equals. It is extremely unusual for an organisation to work in this completely integrated way. Equal People Performing Arts strives to pioneer this approach across a wide age and ability range. The charity aims to advance fully inclusive education in the Performing Arts for all children, young people and adults both disabled and non-disabled or who are disadvantaged. It also provides workshops and activities in the Performing Arts in order to assist with their integration into the wider community. In Summer 2014 after raising in excess of £130,000 Equal People Performing Arts secured a long term lease on its first ever premises in the heart of Rayleigh. In January 2015 after extensive renovation work, the charity, along with MTC as the charity's lead provider, moved in. From January 2015 Equal People Performing Arts has provided the local community with two fully accessible studios. Moving forward we are hoping to extend the use of the buildings space by developing further studios at the rear of the property. At Equal People Performing Arts learners work together, regardless of ability, in unique and creative ways; enjoying the social and therapeutic benefits of drama, dance, musical theatre and theatre skills in a safe and dignified setting that is always welcoming, friendly and fun.

⭐ We’re incredibly grateful to receive feedback like this from members of our community!

At Equal People Performing Arts, we believe that everyone deserves access to creative spaces where they can learn, grow, and thrive. Knowing that our space has helped someone complete their university studies alongside their peers reminds us why accessible, inclusive arts environments matter so much.

"Thank you so much for welcoming me in for the last few weeks and giving me a safe space to finish my work for university this year!

As you know better than most, finding access to arts spaces can be a big challenge as a disabled person, and I can't tell you how much it means to me to finish my year's study alongside my peers instead of missing out based only on a lack of accessible space to record.

Spaces like these are so very valued and important in community/performance spaces. Thank you all again for your kindness."

🫶 Thank you for your kind words, and for trusting us with your journey Phoebe!

👉 We're proud to support artists, students, and performers of all backgrounds, and we're committed to continuing to make the arts more accessible for everyone.

No pressure. No judgment. Just real support, real connection, and a reminder that nobody has to carry everything alone.

This video shares what members get out of the group in their own words 💛
