Stock SKC members had a busy couple of days over the past weekend.
On Saturday the 9th of May, we had 9 members represent our club at this years KUGB National Championships in Nottingham.
This year was an exceptional Championships as the KUGB were celebrating its 60th year anniversary.
To celebrate this event there were two special team kumite bouts with the Italian National side.
Also, Long Standing Members were issued to students who have been members of the KUGB for 20, 30, 40, 50 and Sensei Terry O'Neill and Sensei Ian MacLaren for 60 years.
Congratulations to them all.
As usual the standard was very high, as Karate-ka from all parts of the British Isles and Ireland were there to win their respected titles.
We had some great performances from all of our members but it was young Sophie who had an excellent day.
Sophie had fought her way to a bronze medal in the 12-13 year olds girls kumite and then gained another bronze in the Girls Brown belt kata event.
All this in her first National KUGB competition.
At the start of the finals, an overhead projector was used, and on the big wall behind the top table, images of KUGB members past and present were viewed on a sideshow.
Even our clubs founder Sensei Terry was on there, when he won a signed poster from the England team, and then another picture of Terry this time with Sensei Adam and the late great Sensei Bob Poynton, after Adam's 5th Dan grading success.
Sensei Adam had also been asked to write an article in this years souvenir program, celebrating our clubs 50th anniversary.
The next day Jason and his daughter Tiva were representing the club in Clacton at the EKCC Southern Region Gold Cup.
Tiva won 2 silver medals.
Her first came in the childrens kata, under 4ft 10in, 7thto 6th kyu.
Then she grabbed her second medal in the over 4ft 10in kata event.
Jason won 1 silver and 2 Bronzes.
His second place came in the Vets over 35s category, then he won his 2 bronzes in the over 45s and then in the senior male kata.
Congratulations to all of our students from the past weekend of competing.
