Today marks the anniversary of the Battle of Prestonpans - a fitting day to officially announce that based on the feedback from this year's events, we have decided that the the Jacobite Festival will definitely return next year (14-22 August 2027)!

And that's a wrap on the third Jacobite Festival! What a nine days it has been, from swords and storytelling at Falkirk Muir to living history in the shadow of Glencoe, guided tours through Jacobite Perth and an unforgettable evening at Fingask Castle with Bonnie Prince Charlie's physician's descendants.

We've walked battlefields, heard folk songs at Holyroodhouse, hunted for hidden Jacobite symbols at Glenfinnan, and uncovered the story of a remarkable hoard discovered only six years ago in Sandaig.

Thank you to every site, guide, re-enactor, curator and storyteller who made it happen and to everyone who came along and made it the success it was.

📆 ON THIS DAY...

281 years ago today, Prince Charles Edward Stuart arrived at the tiny hamlet of Glenfinnan with a small band of his most loyal supporters. He had called on clan chiefs to muster their men and join him here for a campaign to restore the Stuarts to the British throne. 🫅

When he arrived at Glenfinnan, there was barely a soul to be seen. However, late that afternoon, the arrival of 1,200 clansmen marked the first of those to pledge their allegiance to Charles. 🤝

After the raising of the Royal Standard, they set off on their campaign to reclaim the throne for a Stuart king. This marked the beginning of the Jacobite Rising of 1745... ⚔
