With the seasons changing towards summer, here’s an easy one to add to your seasonal to-do list… check your bits! ☀️

Knowing what’s normal for your body can help you spot early signs and take action. With bowel cancer, the earlier it’s detected, the more treatable it’s likely to be.

🍊 As Emma used to say: “Always check your bits and sh*ts!”

Take a moment to learn the possible symptoms of the disease by visiting Bowel Cancer UK’s link 👉 https://www.bowelcanceruk.org.uk/about-bowel-cancer/symptoms/

We’ve been contacted today by someone wishing to make a donation, and we've learned that JustGiving has closed the account without notifying us 😟

We had been in the process of upgrading the account to access additional features on the JustGiving platform, and we believe this may be linked to that change.

We're currently trying to get in touch with JustGiving to have the account reinstated as quickly as possible.

In the meantime, if you would like to make a donation, please get in touch with us via our website and we’ll be happy to provide an alternative way to donate.

We’re sorry for any inconvenience caused and hope this will be resolved very soon.

Thank you so much for your continued support 🙏🏼

🧡 We've donated a collection of wigs, headwear and accessories to our new friends over at The Tameside Wig and Scarf Room - a lovely volunteer service based in Stalybridge, supporting people who have hair loss after chemotherapy, and from medical conditions such as alopecia.

Hair loss impacts more than just a person's physical appearance: emotional wellbeing, confidence and identity are just a few areas of life that can be affected.

We're pleased to continue to support them in the future, with donations of specialist wig shampoos, products and brushes.

📈 Around 2,100 people under the age of 50 in the UK are diagnosed with bowel cancer every year.

While this is only 5% of people diagnosed with the disease, this is a massive 25% increase in the number of under 50s diagnosed in the past 10 years.

Bowel Cancer UK talks about “an alarming lack of awareness of bowel cancer as a condition that can affect younger people” which is resulting in diagnosis delays, and previous research suggests that 40% of people in the UK can’t name a single symptom of bowel cancer.

💩 It’s not taboo to talk about poo! Check your bits and sh*ts, and if something doesn’t feel right, visit your GP for advice. Early detection matters at every age 🧡

🧡 April is Bowel Cancer Awareness Month. A time to pause, check in with our health, and feel empowered to talk more openly about possible symptoms that are often overlooked.

The Orange Foundation was established in memory of Emma Aindow-Gregory, to support people who are living with cancer 🍊

Emma was a beloved wife, mother, sister, daughter and friend. She lived with stage 4 bowel cancer for four-and-a-half years. She died aged 49 in December 2022.

Emma’s husband Michael has previously spoken about Emma’s symptoms, which began with a strange stomach ache and pain for a few months.

Following scans, a colonoscopy, and further investigations, it was revealed that Emma had stage 4 bowel cancer, which had spread to the liver.

As an endurance athlete and competing horsewoman, Emma was super-fit and active, and did not fall into the typical risk profile for bowel cancer.

Early detection of bowel cancer saves lives, and knowing the symptoms of bowel cancer can help to make treatment more effective.

📣 And remember Emma’s wise words: “Always check your bits and sh*ts!” 💩

Please read and learn more about the possible symptoms of bowel cancer from Bowel Cancer UK.
