♻️ KANON.foodshare Weekly Diary: Steady Logistics, Sweet Celebrations & Sunshine Soil! 🚗🌱

Good day, everyone !

It has been another fast-paced, fluid, and deeply rewarding week for the one-man army at KANON.foodshare. Managing a local surplus food network means balancing heavy real-time logistics with community care, and this week was a beautiful example of neighbourly cooperation running like clockwork!

Here is your look at how we kept our communities thriving over the last seven days:

🚛 Core Island Sweeps & Sweet Surprises:
Our daily deliveries of vital surplus provisions to Kingsway House, The Registry, 2 Saints at Foster Road, and The LifeHouse remained rock-solid. A massive highlight was our delivery to the Chat Over Chai afternoon session—the group was absolutely thrilled to receive fresh breads and two chocolate cakes, which perfectly timed with an unexpected birthday celebration! We also powered up the FoodCycle kitchen with a fantastic haul of fresh baguettes, vegetables, and sweet treats.

📦 The Protein & Resource Boost:
Thanks to incredible support from Lidl Goldsmith Avenue, we rescued a massive haul of 96 six-packs of eggs, which we split evenly between KANON headquarters and The LifeHouse, alongside crates of fresh cheesy twists and savoury bakes to secure their kitchen menus for the days ahead.

🌱 Progress Report: My Little Garden of Eden:
With the rainy Portsmouth weather finally clearing up over the weekend, the engine officially roared to life in the garden! I spent a solid few hours out in the sunshine weeding, trimming branches, clearing bushes, and planting fresh spring onions and radishes. Three planters are now fully completed and thriving, with plenty more green progress to come!

📆 KANON.foodshare Weekly Update 📆

Good day, everyone!

It has been another fast-paced, fluid, and deeply rewarding week for the one-man army at KANON.foodshare. Managing a local surplus food network means balancing heavy physical lifting with real-time logistics!

Here is how neighbourly cooperation kept our communities thriving this week:

🔧 Behind-the-Scenes Engineering:
The primary shower cabin at KANON headquarters needed an urgent hydraulic re-routing. The tools came out, the pipes were fixed, and operations kept running without missing a single beat!

🚛 The KFC Triple-Triumph:
On Wednesday, KANON executed a swift triple-sweep of all three local KFC branches (Pompey Centre/Fratton, Commercial Road, and Binnacle Way). We delivered a fantastic haul of surplus chicken straight to the kitchen—securing at least half of the community dinner for the Thursday night at The LifeHouse! We also dropped off fresh soup vegetables, bread, and cakes to power the FoodCycle kitchen team for their evening meal service.

🌸 Flower Magic & Picnic Sweets:
KANON successfully delivered 8 beautiful bunches of flowers alongside fresh breads and salad vegetables to the Chat Over Chai afternoon session! On Friday, we supported the Community Spotlight CIC Picnic, bringing fresh Lidl surplus and a surprise box of sweets for the local children.

👴 KANON 2 at Walberton:
Every Sunday, we extend our supply line to Walberton for my dear friend Fred, who turns 80 this year! Fred operates the unofficial "KANON.foodshare 2," taking our surplus provisions and hand-distributing them to up to 15 households of elderly neighbours.

🌱 My Little Garden of Eden:
Between runs, the engine is slowly restarting on our green project. We've been out there weeding, planting, and watering to put the garden back into an organized state!

🐈 Director Donny:
Our Director of Pest Control is thriving, viciously playing with a crumpled ball of paper, dry penne pasta, or a rogue cherry!

KANON.foodshare Diary: Driving Through the Heat & Building for the Future ♻️🚗✨

What a monumental week of community action, leadership, and connection here at KANON.foodshare! Balancing the daily physical logistics of food rescue with high-level networking is no small feat, but when the mission calls, the one-man army moves.

Here is a look behind the scenes at how your local support network came together this week:

🌟 Empowering Next-Gen Leadership.
This week, we officially welcomed our fantastic new volunteer, Jemima! Instead of diving straight into standard headquarters chores, she was given a front-row seat to the heart of Portsmouth's charitable ecosystem. Jemima joined me on a fast-paced tour of community networking, mapping local co-operation, and even exploring the beautiful island outskirts near Foxes Forest. She is studying in Portsmouth for the next two years, and we are proud to invest in her potential to become a true operational right hand for KANON.foodshare! 🤝🌱

👑 Civic Celebrations & Powerful Local Networking.
Thursday was a game-changing day of double-networking across the city, and Jemima was right there by my side to experience it all:

1️⃣ Chat Over Chai 5th Anniversary: First, we supported a landmark event at the Havelock Centre, providing premium M&S and Sainsbury's pastries and breads for a South Asian-inspired high tea. It was an honour to see our rescued food fuel a celebration attended by the new Lord Mayor of Portsmouth, Cllr Abdul Kadir, and the Lady Mayoress, while clicking on a wellness level with Kevin Cane during a refreshing garden Tai Chi session. 👑🥪

2️⃣ Spotlight Seekers Community Network: I then zipped across the city for our monthly meetup with local visionary leaders, including Community Spotlight CIC, Seekers Create and others. This session brought incredible vibes and perhaps even some prospects for KANON.foodshare. We discussed genuine collaborative projects, localized community work for the Copnor area, and exciting future paths for sustainable, community initiatives. The seeds planted here are pointing to possible growth! 🎯🤝

🚚 The Late-Night Freezer Sprint.
While the daytime hours brought intense coastal humidity, the evenings were all about maximizing supply-chain efficiency. Thanks to excellent hauls from M&S Havant, Ocean Park, and Iceland North End, we executed calculated, direct night-time deliveries to The LifeHouse for multiple consecutive nights! By routing massive hauls of quality ready meals, and comforting pastries straight into their commercial freezers, we've ensured their “shelves” are full and ready for the upcoming week. ❄️🍗🛒

📋 The Administrative Horizon.
To cap off an exhausting week, the final weekend of May was entirely dedicated to administrative survival. We have officially submitted our latest local funding application. The paperwork is filed, the logistics are secure, and the deck is clear for June!

KANON.foodshare Weekly Diary: Logistics, Leadership & Local Alignment ♻️💪

It has been another whirlwind week for the KANON.foodshare one-man army, full of tactical shifts, deep roots, and unexpected cosmic alignment!

The week kicked off with high-stakes logistics.
Heading to The LifeHouse on Tuesday morning to find their shelves completely bare is exactly why we do this. Instead of a rigid split, we instantly pivoted—rerouting a massive cargo surge of Sainsbury’s, Lidl, and M&S goods directly to them. Our partnership goes back to the 2020 pandemic days; that deep mutual respect means they will always be a priority. Later in the week, we pulled off a direct Saturday night-drop to them straight from our evening runs, before I headed out for a 2-hour midnight grounding walk barefoot on the grass. 🌌🐾

The real magic happened during Thursday's Chat Over Chai workshop.
Knowing they'd be making cheese sandwiches, alongside the usual breads and pastries, we prepared a special "sandwich kit" (Little Gem lettuce, spring onions, tomatoes, herbs, and basil). The look of pure joy on Lucky Haque's face when she saw the unexpected additions was priceless! 🥪✨

While there, I crossed paths with the inspiring team from Seekers Create (Steve Baker & Clair Martin). Our vibes clicked instantly. Their mission of Asset-Based Community Development—building resilient communities through creative cooperation—perfectly mirrors KANON.

Lately, the universe has been winking with a proliferation of twos (including hitting 222 followers on my personal Facebook account!), signifying structural cohesion. From my future volunteer, through Steve and Claire, to a LifeHouse volunteer, Malcolm, who offered to help with my Community Garden project, this "one-man army" is weaving into a beautiful network of local leaders.

We wrapped the week introducing our new Director of Pest Control, Donny, and surviving a Sunday dishwasher pipe leak! We are recharged, full of beams, and ready for our next local network meeting on Thursday, May 28th! 🚀💎

🐈‍⬛ Meet KANON.foodshare’s New Director of Pest Control! 🐈‍⬛💪

At KANON.foodshare - Copnor, Portsmouth , food safety and hygiene are paramount.

While our rigorous standards mean we have never had a pest issue at our 81 Dartmouth Road headquarters, we believe in being completely proactive. Handling large volumes of surplus baked goods means staying one step ahead.

Introducing Armageddon, our new Director of Pest Control!

To the corporate world, he is Armageddon—the ultimate deterrent. On a daily basis, he answers to Don, but to our community friends and visitors, he is affectionately known as Donny. 🐾

Donny is a fluffy black kitten stepping into the big paws of our beloved Figi, who guarded our space for 18 years until last December.

While Donny started his career in "deep hiding" under the fireplace, he is no longer shy! He has turned into a playful little monster, showing off a fierce "killer instinct" during playtime. He is our official, proactive biological shield, ensuring our community crates stay pristine.

👼 Personal Milestone Alert: 222 Followers & The Matrix Corrects Itself! 👼

Remember a few weeks ago when I wondered how KANON.foodshare bypassed the 222 milestone and jumped straight to 333 on our business page? Well, the universe (or the Facebook algorithm) was just saving that number for my personal account!

As of today, I am officially celebrating 222 followers right here on my personal profile! 🎉

I don't post holiday snaps or what I had for breakfast here. This account is the personal-level powerhouse that lets me push our food-saving mission into even more community groups for greater reach. So, seeing this specific triple number pop up here feels like a well-timed nod from above.

What does 222 means for the KANON.foodshare mission?

In number patterns, 222 is all about balance, cooperation, and building strong foundations. It’s the number of partnership.

For a "one-man-army" operating out of my home at 81 Dartmouth Road, "partnership" means you—the neighbours, supporters, and local groups who help me turn surplus food into community strength. It’s proof that while I run the logistics solo, we are building this stable, thriving network together.

Am I a total believer?
Let's just say I’m still checking my bank account to see if those triple-8s I see daily are going to manifest some abundance to cover the bills! 💸 But until then, I remain a deeply curious observer, experimenting with the patterns and enjoying the ride.

The frontline battle against food waste never rests! From packed daytime distributions to late-night highway runs, the rhythm of KANON.foodshare is a testament to what a dedicated community mission can achieve.

Here is what the frontline looked like over the last 7 days:

🚛 LOGISTICS & FRONT-LINE IMPACT

• Individual Mondays: Our busiest day, completely dedicated to preparing and distributing customized parcels to our local individual guests (1pm-6pm; all visits by appointment). 📦☘
• Morning Delivery Circuits: Fuelled our city partners with steady food drops to The LifeHouse, Two Saints, and the Society of St James homes (The Registry and Kingsway House).
• Thursday Fuel: Delivered fresh bakery goods to Chat Over Chai for their weekly sessions. ☕🥖
• Night Shift Reclaiming: Spent 6pm to 10pm rescuing critical surplus from Iceland and M&S Havant. 🌙🚐

🤝 STRATEGIC GROWTH & NEW HORIZONS

• FoodCycle Partnership: Had an in-depth meeting with Portsmouth’s local Project Lead and Chef to look into the future of our cooperation! 📈
• First Volunteer Interview: A massive milestone! Spent hours in a deep chat/interview with our first potential volunteer. It looks like she'll fit in perfectly and if all goes well, she'll start work next week! 🙏✨
• Sunday KANON.foodshare 2: Made my weekly Sunday run to Walberton to deliver food to my friend Fred (turning 80 this October!). He actively shares it with 15 local households, and we always enjoy the vital company. ☕👴

🕵️‍♂️ PEST CONTROL UPDATE: Our new Director of Pest Control is still in his intensive training phase. He is getting sharper daily but remains a little camera-shy. A dedicated post introducing him properly will be dropping soon! 🐾🤫

‼️🗑️🤬 IT’S ALL "FOOD WASTE" - CAN YOU BELIEVE IT 🤷‍♂️🤦‍♂️⁉

Blessed day to all of you! 🙏😊

Here at KANON.foodshare, we strongly believe that good food (even if outdated) should be eaten, not thrown away!

We also believe (and promote!) that so-called “FOODWASTE” – now often rebranded as “SURPLUS FOOD” to get rid of negative connotations - is a delicious way to save money, help feed the world, and protect our environment and the planet.

As you can see in the attached photos, we live by what we preach:

All these beautiful and tasty meals were made from the “FOODWASTE” – good quality products that are still edible (RESPONSIBLY and CAREFULLY!), but which stores and other food companies cannot sell due to incorrect labelling, exceeding their “BEST BEFORE” date, damaged packaging, or other minor defects.

Some of them are my own creations, intended for personal use, while others (an Asian broth full of nutritious vegetables served with crispy, warm baguettes; American bean burgers on French brioche buns with lettuce and cucumber, served with a crunchy cabbage root salad and sautéed onions and peppers; and a fruit salad with Indian chai and chocolate cream topped with crunchy toasted almonds, coconut, dried apricots and Belgian chocolate, served with a giant cookie) were prepared by one of the charities that KANON.foodshare supports every week by donating variety of food products to prepare meals for the community.

Last week was a testament to the power of consistent routine and some very heartening recognition here at 81 Dartmouth Road.

🚛 Logistics & Impact:

Our daily rhythm remains the heartbeat of KANON. Morning and evening collections were in full swing, ensuring that surplus food reaches those who need it most. Every delivery is a step toward a more resilient Portsmouth.

🤝 Expanding Our Support:

I was honoured to receive a wonderful "Thank You" post from the Society of St James (The Registry) last week. While they mentioned my deliveries to The Registry, I’m also proud to support Kingsway House on a regular basis. I have now been delivering fresh, high-quality food to both homes 4-5 times a week for over a year.

🕵️‍♂️ New "Director" in Training:

We believe in being proactive. To keep our high standards of food hygiene and safety ahead of the curve, we have officially hired a New Director of Pest Control! Currently in an intensive training period, our new recruit is a bit camera-shy, but their presence ensures our operations remain elite. More details (and a face to name) coming soon!

✨ 333 Milestone:

A quick thank you to the community—last week we reached 333 followers on Facebook. A lovely "wink" from the universe that we are on the right path.

🌙 Grounding the Vital Force:

I’ve returned to my routine of long night walks, often barefoot on the grass. Whether it’s 9:30 PM or later, this practice of grounding is essential for recharging my mental and physical health. I highly encourage you to find your own moment to reconnect with nature this week.

👼 Milestone Alert: 333 Followers & The "Wink" of Angel Numbers! 👼

I just glanced at the KANON.foodshare page and had to smile—we have officially reached 333 followers on Facebook!

"Angel Numbers" - I see them daily in huge amounts.

While I wouldn’t call myself a "believer" in the traditional sense, I am a deeply curious observer of these patterns. I like to think of them as a "wink" from the universe—a moment where our internal spirit and energy align with the fabric around us.

I’m constantly experimenting with these signs, checking carefully to see if the numbers reflecting in my day-to-day life eventually manifest in reality. I missed catching the 111 and 222 followers’ milestones but seeing 333 today feels like a perfect moment of alignment for our "Food Parlour" at 81 Dartmouth Road.

What does 333 represent?

In many traditions, it’s a sign of alignment, encouragement, growth, and manifestation.

While I’m still waiting for the "abundance" promised by other numbers (like all these triple, quadruple, five or even sextuple eights I see 😅) to hit the bank account, I take this as a sign that we are moving in the right direction, tackling food waste and building a resilient community with heart and soul.

It might not be a "giant" number to some, but to this "one-man-army," every single one of you represents a neighbourly connection and a vote for a better Portsmouth.

So, a huge thank you to all 333 of you!

I’m now officially on the lookout for our next curious milestone—444! 🚀
Will we hit it exactly, or will the universe jump right over it again (555, 666, 777 or perhaps abundant 888 again 🤷‍♂️🤦‍♂️)? Only time will tell! 😅
