💙🩵❤️ In recognition of a brave and inspirational man: Lee Brown

At the GCUK patient / supporter meeting held in Sheffield on 2nd October 2026, we recognised Lee Brown’s extraordinary fundraising achievements and his remarkable dedication to raising awareness to GIST Cancer.
Lee’s courage and commitment inspired many people across the GIST community. His efforts have made a lasting impact on patients, families and the work of GIST Cancer U.K.
Lee’s family were able to join us at the meeting to receive a ‘Certificate of Appreciation’ for the fundraising and inspiration of this remarkable man who sadly lost his fight with GIST Cancer just over a month ago, and who had originally agreed to be a speaker at the Sheffield meeting.

Despite their loss Lee’s family are continuing to fund raise for GIST Cancer and encouraged members to join them in ‘Taking-the-GIST’ at the Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge on August 1st 2027.
(Information will be shared as soon as it’s available).

💙🩵❤️ Raising funds for GIST Cancer UK whilst summiting Mt. Snowden / Yr Wyddfa at sunrise!

Sarah Malyj got in touch following her group’s fundraising ‘Snowdon Sunrise Summit’ last weekend…..

“I’m absolutely delighted to say that we raised £3,002 for GIST Cancer UK! Our original target was £1,000, so to have raised more than three times that amount has completely blown us away. We’re incredibly grateful to everyone who donated and supported us.

There were seven of us taking on the challenge together. We set off at 2:45am, reached the summit at 6:32am and made it back down to base at around 9:30am. It was definitely one of the hardest things I’ve ever done!

Unfortunately, the weather wasn’t quite as kind to us as we’d hoped. At the summit we had strong winds, heavy rain, fog and a wind chill of around 0°C, so we didn’t get the sunrise views we’d imagined! We all proudly wore our GIST Cancer UK T-shirts for the climb, although by the time we reached the top quite a few of them were hidden underneath some much-needed extra layers.

I originally decided to take on this challenge because I wanted to do something for my mum, who is living with GIST. My amazing friends didn’t hesitate to get behind me and take it on alongside me, and I honestly couldn’t have done it without them. Raising £3,002 for a charity that supports people like my mum and their families makes all the aching legs, rain and 2am start completely worth it.

Thank you to GCUK for providing the T-shirts and for all the support. We were very proud to wear them.”

Best wishes,
Sarah. 🌄

💙Celebrating the life of Lee (Browny) 💙

On Wednesday 9th September 2026, Lee will be laid to rest at Sherwood Forest Crematorium, where his family will have a private ceremony to say our final goodbyes to him.

Following the cremation, we will come together to celebrate Lee’s life and the person he was to so many of us.

📍 Dinnington Resource Centre
📅 Wednesday 9th September 2026
🕒 3pm

Everyone who knew and loved Lee are invited 💙

We want this to be a celebration of Lee
The man, the legend , the son, the dad, the grandad, the partner , the brother, the uncle, the friend and the person who brought so much laughter and fun into the lives of those around him.

💙🤍 And then there’s Sheffield Wednesday… 🤍💙

Everyone who knew Lee knew that he bled blue and white. Sheffield Wednesday was a huge part of who he was.

We would love for everyone coming along to his celebration to wear blue and white in his honour. 💙🤍

So dig out your Wednesday shirts, scarves, hats — whatever you’ve got — and let’s fill the room with blue and white for Lee. 💙🤍

WAWAW! 💙🤍🦉

If you knew Lee, we would love for you to come along and share your memories and stories with us. The good, the bad, the funny, the embarrassing — whatever memories you have of him. We want to hear them all.

Lee was someone who loved life and more than anything, he loved having fun, we hope to fill the room with everything Lee loved the most … laughter , stories , music , friendship and love .

Although our hearts are broken at having to say goodbye, we want to remember Lee not just for the way we lost him, but for the life he lived, the memories he made and the love he left behind.

Please come and celebrate him with us. Share a story, raise a glass, have a laugh, shed a tear and, if you can, maybe sing a song for Lee. 💙

He will be missed more than words can ever say, but he will never, ever be forgotten.

💙Forever our Lee. 💙

Please share share share 💙

💙🩵❤️ A great idea for a fundraiser!

Chloe and Josh Fisher recently got married in Cyprus. 🥂
On their wedding they decided to gift ‘favours’ of GIST Cancer UK pin badges to their guests to help raise awareness of GIST Cancer. They wanted to highlight the importance of charities like GCUK who support GIST patients and enable research and treatments for this rare cancer
At the reception, they held a 'First Dance Sweepstake' and with help from their amazing family and friends they raised £700! 👏

Chloe’s dad was diagnosed with GIST Cancer over 4 years ago; he is a complex case because the tumour cannot be removed but luckily, the medication is keeping his tumour stable and he is still able to enjoy a normal life.

We are very pleased that on such a special occasion, Chloe and Josh were able to support the GCUK Charity. A great fundraising idea! …. thank you so very much. We wish them both all the very best in their married life together, and we hope Chloe’s Dad is able to get the treatment he needs to keep the GIST at bay. 💙🩵❤️

💙🩵❤️ His legacy will live on……

Remembering Lee ❤️

It is with the most broken of hearts that we have to share the devastating news that Lee Brown passed away peacefully on Thursday 20th

After an incredible 12-year journey with cancer, Lee sadly developed an infection as a complication of the largest tumour in his lower intestine. Sadly, the infection spread into his bloodstream and he developed sepsis.
Despite the treatment and care Lee received, his body had simply been through so much, and sadly he was unable to fight this final battle.

Lee passed peacefully and without pain, surrounded by the people who loved him. His family and friends were by his bedside, holding his hands and making sure he knew he was not alone.

As heartbreaking as losing Lee is, we find comfort in knowing that his final moments were peaceful, that he was surrounded by love, and that he was cared for every step of the way.

For 12 years, Lee fought his cancer with a strength that amazed everyone who knew him. But more than that, he lived.
He laughed.
He loved.
He made memories.
He made people laugh when they needed it most.
He supported others even when he was facing his own battles.

That is the legacy we want to carry forward.

Lee created this page because he wanted people living with GIST to know that they were not alone. He wanted to share his experiences, offer hope, encourage positivity and show others that a cancer diagnosis does not take away your ability to live, love, laugh and make memories.

The GIST community gave Lee so much strength throughout his journey, and he was always grateful for the support he received from every single one of you … he always spoke about every member of the GIST community with pride and was always humbled by the support he received back from you

If Lee could say one last thing to everyone still walking this path, I know what he would say:

Keep fighting. Keep believing. Stay positive. Make memories. Never give up hope. And keep Taking the GIST out of cancer. ❤️

That is how we want Lee to be remembered.

Not simply for the cancer he fought, but for the life he lived.

Not for the illness that eventually took him, but for the 12 years he refused to let cancer define him.

His journey may have come to an end, but the hope he gave to so many people does not have to.

So, to everyone still fighting GIST, from Lee and all of us who loved him:

Please keep going.
Keep fighting.
Keep making memories.
Keep believing in better days.
And most importantly, keep living.

Forever loved

Never forgotton

❤️💙
