STOLEN - sadly our 20hp outboard has been stolen from Llandegfedd Reservoir where we take the cadets sailing, power boating and paddle boarding. This happened in the later part of last week from the car park area where the boat is stored. This will have a big impact on our ability to take the cadets on the water safely. If anyone has any information please let us know. We will be looking at options to replace but as a charity this isn’t something we can do immediately.

As our RNP had 3 different evolutions from all divisions it feels appropriate to have separate posts about each evolution. For this we start with our Sea Cadets. For their evolution they chose to do Communication & Information System (CIS) they paired this with guiding the area officer through a maze. Who better to guide the Area Officer than our very own district officer Lt Cdr (SCC) Higgon-Young RNR. This was done by the cadets giving a short explanation on how to use a radio to effectively communicate information.

Tuesday evening was our Royal Naval Parade. We were delighted to welcome the Area Officer Commander Mills RN and Lt (SCC) Bird RMR 2 Troop Commander.
All cadets worked extremely hard to put their evolutions together and presented them brilliantly. We ended the night with 4 promotions and an enrollment.

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Mr. Mervyn Reece. As many of our followers are aware, Mr. Reece dedicated over 40 years to teaching sailing at Torfaen unit.

Whether it was on weekends or during the summer, Mr. Reece could often be found at Llandegfedd Reservoir, instructing sea cadets on the art of sailing and dinghy racing. Many of us will fondly recall his memorable phrase, "pull the tiller towards you."

Mr. Reece also generously volunteered his time in various capacities within the Torfaen Sea Cadets, serving as a Committee member, Chairman, and ultimately as President. He always took great pride in attending VIP visits and awards nights.

We would be grateful if you could share your cherished memories and photographs of Mr. Reece, as we would like to include them in his eulogy.

The funeral arrangements are as follows:
Gwent Crematorium
Friday, May 8th, at 4 PM
Refreshments will be provided at Greenmeadow Golf Club.

Fair winds and following seas.
Shipmate, the watch stands relieved.

Tonight our cadets had a visit from the Royal Marine Youth Engagement Team and they all had a brilliant time. They had to build rockets in teams and then got to take them over the park to fire them to see who’s went the furthest. We can’t wait to welcome the team back for some more fun activities with the cadets.

Do you have enthusiasm and a passion for working with young people from a variety of backgrounds?

Would you like the opportunity to apply this passion in a meaningful role to launch young people for life, whilst also enhancing your skills, boosting your self-esteem and meeting new people?

The Sea Cadets is the UK’s leading maritime charity and provides a head start in life for young people through nautical adventure and fun. Our volunteers work, both directly with young people and behind the scenes, to help make a positive difference to teenagers who are often struggling in today’s world and their communities.
Torfaen Sea Cadets and Royal Marines Cadets, based on Mount Pleasant Road, is currently looking for enthusiastic volunteers to join their team as Sea Cadet Instructors. Torfaen is a long-established Sea Cadet Unit that has provided life-changing opportunities for many young people. We currently have 15 cadets who come from all over the Torfaen area.

There are free training courses available for you to develop new skills, boost your CV and support you in this role. These tasks can also be divided between volunteers, so why not come along with a friend and share the experience?

It has been great to see the cadets representing our district with smiles on their faces. They have put so much effort into their training, uniform and commitment to practice.

This would not be possible without the dedication of the adult volunteers putting in the time to train and encourage the cadets to be the best they can be.

A huge BZ (congratulations) to all of the Sea cadets and staff for this great achievement.

If you are interested in finding out more, whether it's as a cadet or adult volunteer please get in touch with us.
Adult Volunteers receive training to be able to teach and guide our cadets. You will also make friends when volunteering.

On Tuesday night cadets started learning seamanship. With our senior cadets showing other cadets how to do a knot then having a relay race with other teams to all do the knots. Everyone had fun, learning this in different ways.
