A massive congratulations and BZ to PO Edwards S who has officially been promoted to Midshipman after passing his officers board this weekend at HMS Raleigh!

While it’s the first step on the officer career ladder, the process is no small feat - he had to pass both Phase 1 and Phase 2 of the promotion board, meeting the exact same rigorous standards as any other officer candidate.

Since the rank of Midshipman is specifically reserved for young officers aged 18–21, it is a truly massive achievement.

This is also another milestone for Barry Unit as Midshipman (SCC) Sean Edwards RNR is the first officer within the unit for many many years (possibly decades).

⭐️⭐️District Combined Regatta 2026🛶 🏆⭐️⭐️

A huge well done to everyone from South Wales District Sea Cadets who took part in today's District Regatta!!

The weather was great, making for an enjoyable day on the water. It was fantastic to see so many cadets taking part, giving their best, and having fun.

Thank you to all the staff and volunteers for their support and hard work throughout the day. Your efforts helped make the event a success.

STOLEN - sadly our 20hp outboard has been stolen from Llandegfedd Reservoir where we take the cadets sailing, power boating and paddle boarding. This happened in the later part of last week from the car park area where the boat is stored. This will have a big impact on our ability to take the cadets on the water safely. If anyone has any information please let us know. We will be looking at options to replace but as a charity this isn’t something we can do immediately.

👏 Fantastic to see the generosity of former cadet Dav Hayer, who went on to enjoy a distinguished career in the Royal Navy and is now giving back to the very unit where his journey began.

If you’ve previously been involved with Sea Cadets, this is just one of the many ways you can support and inspire young people today. Whether through volunteering your time, sharing your skills and experience, or reconnecting with your local unit, your support can make a real difference.

Did you know that all Sea Cadet Units are individual charities? ⚓️

We are entirely responsible for our own funding. Our amazing trustees work tirelessly to find funds to cover day-to-day running costs, keeping our lights on, our heating running, and our doors open.

Normally, training costs are passed on to parents and guardians. However, with the cost of living rising week by week, families are facing incredibly difficult choices.

As an organisation, we do our absolute best to mitigate these costs so no cadet misses out.We do this by applying for grants and seeking donations.

Recently, we received an incredible boost! We were contacted by ex-Cadet Davinder Hayer. After a long and distinguished career in the Royal Navy, Davinder wanted to give back to the very Sea Cadet Unit that set him on his career path.

His generous donation of £1000 will go towards much needed repairs to our building and also fund an activity or event chosen directly by the Cadets, Thank you so much, Dav Hayer ! Your support means the world to our current generation of cadets.

Congratulations to Midshipman (SCC) Olivia Higgon-Young RNR on her appointment as Assistant Area Staff Officer (Cadet Voice) for South West Area.

As we all know, Ma'am has a strong background in Cadet Voice support and delivery. In addition, Ma'am will continue being the DCVSO for both South Wales and West Wales District Sea Cadets
