Let's celebrate life beyond stereotypes. 🫢

Today is Age Without Limits Day 2026, a chance to challenge outdated assumptions about ageing. πŸ™Œ

Ageism remains one of the most common yet overlooked forms of discrimination. Research from Age Without Limits found that 60% of people they asked over 50 have experienced ageism, while 33% said they would never challenge it if it happened to them. These findings highlight how deeply ingrained age related stereotypes can be and how often they go unspoken. πŸ€”

Age Without Limits Day encourages us to rethink the narratives surrounding later life. Age does not define ambition, creativity, capability or contribution. Every person carries a unique story, shaped by their own experiences and knowledge that continues to develop with time. 🌱

By questioning assumptions and valuing people for who they are rather than the number of candles on a birthday cake, we can help create a society where everyone feels seen, respected and empowered to live life without judgement. βœ…

Supporting those who support others. πŸ₯°

This week marks Carers Week (8 - 15 June), an important opportunity to recognise and celebrate the millions of unpaid carers who provide invaluable support to family members, friends and loved ones every day. πŸ‘

At Age UK Plymouth, we see first hand the dedication and commitment that carers bring to their role. While caring can be deeply rewarding, it can take an emotional and physical toll - which is why having access to the right support is so important. πŸ’›

We are proud to support carers at every stage of their journey through a range of services. Our Day Centre and Dementia Day Centre offer safe environments where older people can enjoy activities and support, while giving carers much needed respite and time to recharge and focus on other activities. πŸš—

We also run a Caring for Carers Group at the Dementia Day Centre, providing the opportunity for local Plymouth carers to come together with others who understand their experiences, share advice and support. πŸ‘‹

A fin-tastic day here at Age UK Plymouth. 🐠🌊

Did you know today was National Fish & Chip day?

We started by welcoming our friends from , where our Day Centre clients got to experience life beyond the waves through virtual reality headsets. There was also a hands on collection of shells and other fascinating finds from the ocean to explore! πŸšπŸ¦€

We also had a very special visit from the Nippy Chippy van to serve fresh fish and chips to our clients and staff. 🚐

Finally, a fantastic performance from familiar favourites - The Burraton Boys! 🎀🐳

Free NHS Liver Checks will be taking place at Age UK Plymouth on Wednesday 17th June from 9:00-15:00 🩺

We want to help raise awareness and prevent liver disease as early as possible to
give the best chance of recovery, treatment & intervention.

How does it work?
Within a clinic room setting or an NHS community van, a qualified nurse will perform a Fibroscan, which takes 10-20 minutes to perform depending on the individual.
The free, simple, painless & non-invasive procedure uses high-frequency sound waves to assess liver stiffness, which reflects the degree of scarring in your liver

Who is eligible?
Anyone 18+ with the following risk factors is encouraged to have a free fibroscan:
β€’ Type 2 Diabetic or pre-diabetic
β€’ Overweight (BMI 30 or above).
β€’ High Alcohol Consumption for 10+ years (i.e. 6 pints of beer or 1.5 bottles of wine per week).
β€’ Current/past history of blood borne virus (Hepatitis B or C)

If you meet the above criteria & want to book, please email [email protected]

Please note appointments are on a first come, first served basis πŸ’™

A lovely afternoon spent with people who share the same goal of improving wellbeing and support for those aged 50+, individuals living with dementia and other health conditions. 🫢

This afternoon, we hosted the latest Ageing Well Collective meeting at our Mount Gould centre, where members of our team highlighted the most important aspects of our work, as well as ways others can get involved and support us. ❀

We were also joined by Mel from Four Greens Community Trust, who led an activity focusing on wellbeing, accessibility and inclusivity. πŸ’‘

Thank you to all of our colleagues and partners who came along. We know how important it is to work collectively to support our community. πŸ‘

Please note: Our cafΓ©, Time & Again is sadly closing. Our final day of trading will be this Friday 15 May 2026. πŸ˜”

We would like to reassure all our supporters, clients and volunteers that all other services and activities within our Mount Gould offices continue to operate as normal and the space remains open and available for use. πŸ’™

We understand that some people may have questions or concerns. If you would like to speak with someone, please contact [email protected] in the first instance and we will direct your enquiry to the most appropriate person.
