I am a Social Prescriber Link Worker at an inner city GP surgery and contacted DCFRP when I was supporting a mum who had escaped domestic abuse after many years of experiencing significant trauma and abuse in her relationship. She needed to start her life all over again after moving from a refuge to her first safe (although temporary) home. My client had very little in terms of personal belongings and was still navigating the benefits system so had very little money to spare to equip her new home. She enjoyed cooking and found this a great way to manage her stress and to be able to relax but did not have the equipment to bake a cake or cook a meal from scratch. DCFRP was able to provide her with a fantastic selection of kitchen equipment – all for free – including a wonderful set of pots and pans, air fryer, plate set and cooking utensils. They were even able to source her a rug to make her new home more homely. This very generous and kind donation will not only go a long way to restring my client’s faith in human nature but will also enable her to cook fresh and healthy food for herself and to share with her new housemates. Both myself and my client are very grateful and appreciative of the support and funding available from DCFRP – it really makes a difference!
