Unlocking doors to employment for women overcoming multiple disadvantage. Plymouth & Tavistock areas

28/10/2026

There's something about a proper Christmas dinner, isn't there?
🎄

Every year we host a Christmas meal for the women we work with, for many the Gifted Women Christmas meal is their Christmas Day. So we always try to make it a special one, filled with joy, laughter, good food and great company.

Chef Don (Donovan Spencer) is kindly coming back for a second year to cook, and we're in need of some generous suppliers with big hearts to help us fill their plates...

The ingredients on our bingo checklist are just a taste of what we need, and every item that gets ticked off brings us one step closer to delivering a happier Christmas.

The Gifted Women Christmas party is one of the highlights of our year. It's especially important to bring people together during a time which for so many can feel particularly lonely.

If you're a supplier who'd love to be part of it, or you know someone who would, we'd love to hear from you, just email [email protected] 💗

The Red Pandas football team chose Gifted Women as their Charity of the Season and raised a whopping £700, through donations and running match day cafes.

Girls supporting women, and a brilliant example of a community getting behind women in Plymouth and the surrounding areas.

A massive thank you to the Garfield Weston Foundation for their £20,000 grant to Gifted Women 💛

This is brilliant news. It means we can keep walking alongside women in Plymouth as they build their own way into sustainable employment, and here's what that looks like day to day:

🌱 Flourish, our 12-week course, where confidence grows, friendships form and sparks of joy start to re-ignite

🤝 One-to-one support, with someone in your corner at your pace

🏢 Work experience placements, where women step into local workplaces to explore their new skills and grow confidence

🚌 The practical things that quietly stands between a woman and a job, like bus fares, interview clothes and photo ID

Every bit of that is going to be made possible by the Foundation's generous grant. We're very grateful.

Thank you. 💗

We smashed our Big Give target! 🎉

Thanks to everyone who donated, fundraised, shared and got stuck in this week. We’ve raised a whopping £9,616 against our £5000 target.

Much needed funds to support more women in Plymouth on their journey towards employment. We’re so grateful.

A few extra special thank yous:

Woollcombe Yonge Solicitors, for a brilliant Quiz & Curry night that raised an incredible amount for us.

Brigid Foley and her Pop Up Shop, for such generous clothing donations.

The Lewis and Teruko Shaw Foundation, for their generous support.

Every pound raised means real support, like transport costs, work clothes, or a place on our Flourish programme.

Thank you for helping us unlock doors to employment.

Earlier this year, we posted about one of the women we support who had just moved into her own home. After years of temporary arrangements, she got her own front door and her own keys. Somewhere safe, secure and hers. 🏡

She’s done the hard part and she’s safe, amazing. However, months on, she’s still looking at bare floorboards in every room, and we’d love for her to be able to step into a warm, cosy home in time for winter.

Could you bring her an early Christmas present?

Helping her with carpet or flooring would mean the world. 💗

A home isn’t a luxury. It’s the foundation everything else rests on.

💖 𝗣𝗹𝘆𝗺𝗼𝘂𝘁𝗵 𝗲𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗼𝘆𝗲𝗿𝘀: 𝗶𝘀 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸𝗽𝗹𝗮𝗰𝗲 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘄𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗻?

Tomorrow, Wednesday 14th October, we'll be at the Devon Business Show, and we'd love you to come and say hello!

We're particularly excited to talk to you about something close to our hearts. At Gifted Women, we've spent years understanding the barriers women face in accessing, sustaining and progressing in employment.

We're keen to take our learning, experience and expertise directly into Plymouth workplaces, helping employers attract, retain and develop talented women.

And the timing couldn't be more important.

According to Plymouth City Council, Plymouth needs an estimated 15,000 additional workers over the next decade and women make up 51% of our city's population.

So here's a question for local employers:

𝗔𝗿𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗱𝗼𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝘁𝗼 𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘁 𝘄𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗻 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗼 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗯𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀, 𝘁𝗼 𝗵𝗲𝗹𝗽 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗺 𝘁𝗵𝗿𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘂𝗹𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗹𝘆 𝗸𝗲𝗲𝗽 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗺?

Whether you're a small business or a large employer, we can help. From conversations with leadership teams, practical training for managers to taking a deeper look at your workplace culture, we're all about helping businesses make small changes that can have a big impact.

💗 𝗔𝗻𝗱 𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲'𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝗹𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗹𝘆 𝗯𝗶𝘁. As a charity, every penny of the proceeds goes straight back into Gifted Women, supporting our employability programme for women rebuilding their lives after multiple disadvantage.

𝗕𝗲𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸𝗽𝗹𝗮𝗰𝗲𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘄𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗻. 𝗕𝗲𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗼𝘂𝘁𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗲𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗯𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗲𝘀. 𝗠𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗼𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘄𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗻 𝘄𝗲 𝘀𝘂𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁 𝗶𝗻 𝗣𝗹𝘆𝗺𝗼𝘂𝘁𝗵.

Tavistock, save the date! 💖

On Monday 12th October, Brigid Foley is back at The Bedford Hotel, Tavistock, Devon with a one day only Pop-Up Shop, and 100% of proceeds go to Gifted Women.

📆 Monday 12th October - one day only!
📍 The Bedford Hotel, Tavistock
⏰ 10am–4pm

Expect rails of brand new boutique clothes, jewellery, scarves and bags. New this year is a pre-loved rail too. If you have a nearly new Brigid Foley piece you no longer wear, bring it along and give it a second life.

Your support can also go further this week. We're taking part in The Big Give, with up to £2,500 of donations matched. A £30 purchase raises £60 💛

Every pound helps women across Plymouth build firm foundations, overcome barriers and access opportunities on their way into work.

Come and say hello, we'd love to see you there.

We're live, the Big Give has officially started! 🎉

From now until 13th October, every pound donated through the Big Give Women and Girls Match Fund gets doubled, up to £2,500, helping us reach our £5,000 target for the week.

There's still time to get involved, whether that's donating, organising something with your team (a cake sale, quiz, or dress down day all count), or simply sharing this with your network.

Gifted Women exists to unlock doors to employment for women rebuilding their lives after homelessness, problematic substance use, and contact with the justice system. Every pound raised means real support, transport costs, work clothes, or a place on our Flourish programme for a woman starting her journey.

What a night! 🎉

Huge thanks to Woollcombe Yonge Solicitors for hosting a quiz & curry night in support of Gifted Women, raising an incredible £4,497.47. Inspiring speakers, a raffle, a surprise auction, and a room full of people showing up for a cause that matters.

This kind of support means real things for the women we work with. Transport costs, work clothes, a place on our Flourish programme, the practical help that makes the difference between a barrier and an opportunity.

Thank you to everyone who bought a ticket, donated a prize, or simply turned up and got involved. We couldn't do this without you 💖
