Looking for a handmade decoration for your Christmas tree? 🎄

Join us for our tree ornament workshop and learn the traditional craft of corn dolly making with talented tutor Sally Murdoch.

Try out a range of weaves, and learn to make glory braids, festive tokens, dragonflies, hearts, or lantern pomanders with scented Saxon amulet beads. No previous experience needed!

Help us build an Iron Age chariot!

We’re raising £5,000 to build an experimental Iron Age chariot at Butser, working alongside archaeologist Richard Osgood, Time Team and military veterans from Operation Nightingale.

During an archaeological field project, military veterans uncovered fascinating evidence of Iron Age chariots. Now, we want to bring those discoveries to life by building a working experimental reconstruction at Butser in spring 2027. Projects like this have proved hugely valuable, as seen with our Bronze Age building, and this is an opportunity to investigate Iron Age engineering through experimental archaeology.

We need your help to make it happen! Every donation, however big or small, will bring us closer to our target and help get this exciting project off the ground. If we reach our goal, we also hope to have the build filmed by Time Team.

Autumn on the farm... There's something so magic about this season: the misty mornings, falling leaves, and the gentle turn of the earth towards winter. As we enter the colder months, we're closed for general admission until February half term 2027, but we've still got a cosy lineup of festive events to see us through the season. ☕ 🍁

Our new Home Education Days are now available to book! ✨

Planning your learning adventures for next year? Our Home Education Days are back, with plenty of opportunities for young history enthusiasts to get hands-on with the past at Butser Ancient Farm.

Each session features four hands-on activities, with time to explore our ancient buildings and discover everyday life in the past. You can book individual days or save 10% when booking three or more sessions together.

It was a pleasure to welcome the talented team behind our beautiful Roman villa mosaic flooring to Butser earlier this year! ✨

Creating a mosaic like this takes incredible skill, patience and an eye for detail, and it’s wonderful to see the craftsmanship that went into bringing this piece to life.
