Global Action Plan are running a data centres workshop in Peterlee this weekend- would you like to be involved?

Global Action Plan are running three workshops in Autumn 2026 with local communities close to large data centre developments or proposals, to understand what considerations local residents think should be factored into decision-making around data centres. We have chosen to run one of these workshops in Peterlee, East Durham (in partnership with East Durham Trust), on Saturday 26th September.

The workshop:
• The workshop will last all day (10am-4.30pm) and will bring together around 20 people who will be recruited to represent the range of backgrounds and experiences in the local community as far as possible.
• During the workshop there will be presentations on key topics relating to data centres in the UK and after each presentation, participants will take part in a mixture of activities. No prior knowledge of the topic is needed to take part.
• By the end of the workshop, participants will have worked together to identify key considerations that should be factored into data centre approval decisions- and these key considerations will be used to inform a set of recommendations that Global Action Plan will publish.
• All workshop participants will receive a £100 thank you gift for taking part in the workshop, and drinks, snacks and lunch will be provided at the workshops.

If you are interested in taking part in this workshop this Saturday (26th September), please fill in this form (Data Centres Deliberative Workshop East Durham- Register your interest! – Fill in form) and register your interest- please complete this form as soon as possible and by midday on Thursday 24th September latest! If you have any questions, do let us know by email at [email protected].

Temperatures are set to rise this week with a yellow alert until 11pm Friday (26 June). It’s important we all take simple steps to stay safe and well. Hot weather can bring health risks including dehydration, heat exhaustion, and sun damage.

Protect yourself by:
• Staying hydrated, drink fluids regularly throughout the day
• Wear relaxed, lightweight clothing and dress comfortably
• Close blinds and windows in rooms that face the sun

If outdoors:
• Take regular breaks from the sun in cool or shaded areas, particularly between 11am and 3pm.
• Apply a high factor sun cream (30-50) and reapply regularly
• Wear a hat and sunglasses
