Our Spring 2026 Great UK Waterblitz report is now available.

Armed with simple testing kits more than 4,700 volunteers collected data from more than 2,300 locations, helping to create one of the largest snapshots of freshwater health ever gathered by citizen scientists in the UK.

The results reveal some serious concerns about the state of our waterways, but also some encouraging success stories.

More than half of the UK's waterways tested showed signs of poor water quality, with recorded nutrient levels ranking as ‘unacceptable’. But Wales achieved its best-ever Great WaterBlitz result, far and away the best-performing nation in the UK during the April 2026 event.

The data collected shows the power of community-led science to uncover what’s really happening beneath the surface of our waterways and where action is needed most.

We were delighted to be at the Hastings Direct offices in Bexhill and Leicester earlier this month, attending this year’s Go Green sustainability events!🌳

We explained Earthwatch's mission and programmes across land, water and cities, and even made time for a freshwater watch testing demo!💧

Hastings has been a long-term proud supporter of Earthwatch, and we’re delighted to continue to share our fantastic projects and volunteering opportunities with the Hastings staff!
