🌱 Help us grow a Tiny Forest in Wandsworth! 🌳

Fancy doing something positive for nature and your local community? Come and join us for a FREE Tiny Forest Planting Day in Wandsworth on Wednesday 4 November, 10:30am–3:30pm.

We’re teaming up with the local community to plant 600 native trees and create a little woodland that will bring big benefits for people, wildlife and the environment. Why not join us if you're in the area?

Tiny Forests help support biodiversity, provide habitats for wildlife and play a part in tackling climate change. And the best bit? You can be part of making it happen!

A new report by Earthwatch and members of the Corby community has found high levels of metals in their local rivers and soils at levels that could potentially pose risks to aquatic life and the environment.

In July, 30 trained citizen scientists collected water and soil samples across Corby, with laboratory analysis revealing elevated levels of certain metals at a number of sites. The findings highlight the need for further investigation and show potential risks to the environment. The subsequent report is a major step in understanding the environmental concerns affecting the area.

Thirty trained citizen scientists collected freshwater and soil samples across Corby to investigate potential metal pollution. The findings, now published, reveal elevated levels of metals at several locations, highlighting areas where further investigation is needed to protect local waterways and wildlife and the wider environment in Corby.

The report highlights:
1. Metals at concentrations of potential concern for aquatic life at every freshwater site sampled.
2. Elevated levels of certain metals in soil at several locations.
3. The need for further investigation to better understand the possible sources of pollution and the risks involved.

This is an example of a community turning its concerns into evidence, working with our experts and helping shape the conversation about its local environment. The report and raw data have been shared with the Environment Agency for review, to help policy makers understand the issues and identify what action can be taken.

Thank you for taking part in the Great UK Water Blitz!

Over 7,900 people across the UK joined in to test their local rivers and streams, helping to build a much bigger picture of the health of our freshwater.
The data you collected can help highlight areas where pollution is highest, giving local communities, campaigners, MP’s and others, the evidence they need to take action.

What a weekend for citizen science!

More than 6,000 people are taking part in this year’s Great UK WaterBlitz, gathering water samples from waterways right across the UK.

And there’s something especially exciting about this year’s data…

Some WaterBlitz samples will be analysed for PFAS, often called “forever chemicals.” We don’t yet know what those results will show, which is exactly why the research matters.

The samples collected this weekend will help scientists build a better understanding of the health of our freshwater.
