A welcoming space to connect, chat, and take part in activities that support wellbeing and community for those living with dementia and memory loss. Connect for Life is a Charitable Incorporated Organisation located in the heart of Oswestry, Shropshire. We provide a day support service for older people, particularly those with memory loss or dementia where they can 'meet others and build connectio

ns'. Our sessions are held every Wednesday 10.30am to 2.30pm. Connect for Life strives to enhance the lives of those we come into contact with. Our sessions run in accordance with Christian principles, promoting mutual respect, acceptance and valuing individual contributions. Overall purpose
• decrease social isolation by providing a place where people can meet others and build connections
• access to peer support by providing an environment where people can offer support to one another whether it be as carers or people with life restricting health conditions
• provision of stimulating/ relaxing/ informative activities enabling people to increase their sense of well being and stimulate memory
• provision of respite for carers, by offering a safe place for their cared for to attend for a number of hours in a day

We are aware that there are many older people in socially isolated situations, carers who are in need of a few hours respite and people being diagnosed with dementia or have concerns about their memory. We are committed to providing a service which is welcoming, caring and stimulating with the aim of increasing people’s self esteem and their sense of well being. We will provide activities to stimulate the brain, opportunities for people to try new skills, talk about their situations and have fun.

After our summer break, it feels wonderful to welcome everyone back to Connect For Life!

This morning, we’re kicking things off with a very warm welcome to Laurie, who certainly brought plenty of energy, rhythm and fun with a fantastic Samba drumming session. What a brilliant way to get everyone smiling, moving and enjoying being back together!

Here’s to another season filled with friendship, laughter and memorable moments.

💚 𝗪𝗛𝗔𝗧 𝗔 𝗬𝗘𝗔𝗥 𝗜𝗧’𝗦 𝗕𝗘𝗘𝗡 𝗦𝗢 𝗙𝗔𝗥…

We might still be enjoying our summer break, but we thought this was the perfect opportunity to stop for a moment and look back at 2026 so far.

And, of course, this isn't just any year for Connect For Life… it's our 10th birthday year! 🎂

We started our celebrations with plenty of laughter (and mischief!) thanks to the wonderful Vamos Theatre, and as always, our Wednesdays and Thursdays are packed with so many lovely moments.

🎶 We've sung, danced and enjoyed visits from some brilliant musicians
🧩 We've puzzled, quizzed, crafted and tested the grey matter
🍦 We've enjoyed ice creams, games and plenty of treats
🗣️ We've welcomed some fascinating speakers and learnt a thing or two along the way
❤️ We've celebrated our wonderful Alison receiving her BEM
🏃 We've been blown away by people fundraising and taking on challenges for us
😂 And, most importantly, we've shared a LOT of laughter

Looking back through the photos, it's the little moments that really stand out. The smiles. The conversations. Someone getting up for a dance. A song bringing back a memory. Friends sitting together over a cuppa.

That's what Connect For Life has always been about.

🎥 Remember we mentioned a little video… well, here it is! 💚

As part of being shortlisted for a BBC Shropshire Make a Difference Award, we had the chance to capture a little bit of what Connect For Life is all about.

The friendships, the laughter, the people and those special moments that make our Wednesdays and Thursdays what they are.

We think the video says it better than we ever could… have a watch! 👇💚

🎉 𝗪𝗘’𝗩𝗘 𝗕𝗘𝗘𝗡 𝗦𝗛𝗢𝗥𝗧𝗟𝗜𝗦𝗧𝗘𝗗! 🎉

We’re absolutely delighted to share that Connect For Life has been shortlisted for a BBC Shropshire Make a Difference Award!

The Make a Difference Awards celebrate the incredible people and organisations doing good things in their local communities, so to have the work of Connect For Life recognised in this way means such a lot to us.

Everything we do is about bringing people together, creating friendships, sharing laughter and making life that little bit brighter for people living with dementia and their families.

We’ll find out the result on 25th September… so keep everything crossed for us! 🤞

🎥 And keep your eyes peeled — we’ve got a little video coming very soon which we can’t wait to share with you!

Whatever happens in September, we’re incredibly proud of our wonderful Connect For Life community - our service users, families, volunteers, supporters and everyone who helps make our Wednesdays and Thursdays so special.

💙 Knowing the signs can make a difference.

Dementia can affect people in many different ways, and the symptoms aren’t always what we might expect. We’re sharing this helpful information from Alzheimer's Society to help raise awareness and encourage conversations.

Please do share - you never know who it might help. 💙

As we get older, we’re likely to notice some changes in our mental abilities. For most of us, it’s nothing to worry about.

But dementia is different. It’s not a normal part of getting older.

The first signs of dementia are often small to start with, but get noticeably worse over a matter of months, as opposed to more gradual changes over many years.

Symptoms may start to affect your daily life, making it more difficult to manage everyday tasks and activities by yourself.

Dementia looks different for everyone, but we’ve put together some common ways these symptoms might appear.

By knowing the signs, we can make sure that we don’t brush off or ignore some of the lesser-known symptoms, to help everyone with dementia get a crucial early diagnosis.

If you recognise any of these signs in yourself or someone else, it could be a good idea to check in with your GP. It doesn’t necessarily mean that you have dementia – just that something might be wrong.

And if you’d like more information or advice, visit our website or give our Dementia Support Line a call on 0333 150 3456.

💚 A lovely final session before our summer break!

We certainly made the most of our last Wednesday together before our little summer break! 🎶🧩

We were treated to some wonderful live music from John Lloyd in the morning, followed by an afternoon of puzzles, conversation and plenty of teamwork.

A big thank you to John for entertaining us, and to everyone who joined us for another happy session at Connect For Life.

📣 A quick reminder: Connect For Life will be closed tomorrow (Thursday 13th August) as Gatacre Pavilion is being used as a polling station.

We hope everyone has a lovely summer break and we look forward to welcoming you all back very soon!

💚 𝗟𝗢𝗢𝗞 𝗛𝗢𝗪 𝗠𝗨𝗖𝗛 𝗙𝗨𝗡 𝗬𝗢𝗨 𝗖𝗢𝗨𝗟𝗗 𝗕𝗘 𝗛𝗔𝗩𝗜𝗡𝗚…

Singing. Dancing. Quizzes. Music. Crafts. Plenty of laughs. And, most importantly, some pretty wonderful people to spend your day with.

That’s volunteering at Connect For Life. 💚

We’re looking for a few more lovely people to join our team at our Day Support sessions in Oswestry on Wednesdays and Thursdays, 10am–3pm.

Choose the day that works best for you — Wednesday, Thursday, or even both if you fancy it!

You don’t need to be an expert in dementia. You don’t need a long list of qualifications. We’re looking for people who are kind, patient, friendly and happy to get stuck in — whether that means having a good chat over a cuppa, helping with an activity or occasionally being persuaded onto the dance floor!

For the people who attend Connect For Life, these days mean friendship, laughter, stimulation and connection. As a volunteer, you get to be part of making that happen.

And we think you might get rather a lot out of it too.

Fancy finding out more? There’s absolutely no obligation — just get in touch for an informal chat.

We were delighted to welcome Milla, who led a fantastic interactive drumming workshop. Everyone threw themselves into the session, creating rhythms together, sharing plenty of smiles and enjoying the uplifting power of music.

A huge thank you to Milla for such a fun and engaging experience. We had an amazing time and hope to see you again soon!

There were smiles all around the group as our Wednesday group enjoyed a fun musical instrument quiz, took part in some gentle exercise, and sang and danced along to the wonderful music of Dan Walsh.

Music has such a special way of bringing people together, sparking memories and lifting spirits. A huge thank you to Dan for a brilliant session that had everyone joining in and enjoying themselves! 🎵
