Dear Residents of Nunthorpe,

Nunthorpe Parish Council would like to reassure residents that we remain fully committed to delivering the high standards of service and representation that our community expects and deserves.

Despite recent changes within the Council, including the departure of several councillors and our former Clerk, the Council continues to operate effectively and remains focused on the matters that are important to residents. From supporting the continued progress of the new Community Centre, to addressing local issues such as highways, environmental maintenance, and planning matters, our commitment to Nunthorpe remains unchanged.

We would like to express our sincere thanks to former councillors Morgan, Adrian and Wade for their dedication, hard work, and years of service to the parish. We also extend our gratitude to our former Clerk, Angela, for her professionalism, guidance and valued contribution over many years.

At the same time, we recognise that periods of change also bring new opportunities. With departures come new councillors who bring fresh perspectives, ideas and energy, helping us to evolve as an organisation and continue to serve our community effectively. As such, we would like to extend our gratitude and a warm welcome to Doug Wardale and Jo Rush (who many of you will already know as your ward councillor). We look forward to working with them and benefiting from their experience and commitment to Nunthorpe.

We also welcome Sophie Durham to the team as the new clerk of the parish council. Sophie has experience of the role and is clerk to another parish council.

Looking ahead, it is a priority for Nunthorpe Parish Council to adhere to the strict governance arrangements we have in place. We are confident that, moving forward, we can achieve this to a high standard and without compromise, ensuring transparency, accountability and effective decision-making in all that we do.

While we look to the future with optimism, we never lose sight of who we are and who we serve. First and foremost, we are here to represent the people of Nunthorpe and to be your voice on the issues that matter most to our community.

We encourage residents to engage with us, whether through social media, by contacting the Clerk at [email protected], or by attending a Parish Council meeting and sharing your views on local matters.

We look forward to continuing our work on behalf of the community and to sharing positive news, projects and events from across Nunthorpe in the months ahead.

We recognise that recent changes have brought a period of transition for the Council and are grateful for the understanding and patience shown by residents during this time and thank you all for your continued support

Update on Roadworks and contraflow A172/A174

FIRST PHASE OF MAJOR JUNCTION UPGRADE NEARS COMPLETION

The first phase of major upgrades at a key Middlesbrough junction is nearing completion.

Motorists are being warned of overnight works next Monday and Tuesday (June 1 and 2) as the project moves to the next phase.

The A172 Marton Road/A174 Interchange is undergoing a major programme of repairs and improvements, led by main contractor Esh Construction, to extend the life of the bridge which are set to run until the autumn.

The works - including concrete repairs beneath the bridge, replacement of waterproofing, new kerbs and footways, resurfacing and the installation of new pedestrian fencing and vehicle safety barriers – have required a temporary continuous contraflow system on the A172.

The second stage of works incudes refurbishment of the northbound carriageway and footpath towards Middlesbrough.

Temporary protection will remain in place following the installation of new parapets and will be removed when the final mesh has been added.

This phase – currently due for completion in October – will see all traffic moved onto the southbound carriageway, with pedestrian access diverted to the east side of the bridge

Overnight works on Monday, June 1 and Tuesday, June 2 will require the use of temporary traffic lights, with full access across the bridge maintained at all times. Existing turning restrictions will remain in place.

The safety of all road users, pedestrians and the workforce throughout the works remains of paramount importance, and camera monitoring is in operation within the works area.

It is with sadness we have been informed of the passing of Councillor Charles Morrish last week.

He was a well-respected member of the Parish Council serving from 2004 to 2019. He always challenged decisions of Middlesbrough Council which disadvantaged Nunthorpe & Nunthorpe residents and was a true gentleman. Despite his ageing years he had a fun sense of humour and was a sincerely caring gentleman.
His funeral is on Thursday 21st May 2026, 9:45am at St Hilda’s Chapel, Teesside Cremation, Acklam Rd, Middlesbrough.

⛔️⛔️⛔️⛔️⛔️

overnight road closures of the A174 as it passes underneath the A174/A172 Stokesley Road Marton Interchange starting tonight at 8pm until 6am as follows:
Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday Night (27th, 28th, 29th April) A174 east bound closures.
Thursday Night (28th April) A174 west bound closure.
Traffic will continue to be able to travel north and south over the A172 Stokesley Road bridge, this is only the underneath of the bridge on the A174 running lanes that will be affected with traffic instructed via signed diversions.
The closures are to allow the planned concrete testing which is part of the ongoing bridge works. The contractor will also be installing the temporary parapet to the eastern side of the bridge to facilitate the safe replacement of the permanent parapet.

We thank the residents for their patience in this matter.
