💜 On Wednesday the Cancer Awareness Team and David, a dedicated Cancer Champion volunteer attended the very busy Freshers Fayre at East Durham College in Peterlee.

The message we are spreading is, make sure you check your body for lumps and bumps, and if in doubt - get it checked out.

💜 Cancer prevention starts with small everyday choices. Keeping to a healthy weight, staying physically active and eating a healthy diet can all help reduce your risk. 𝗘𝗮𝗿𝗹𝘆 𝗱𝗶𝗮𝗴𝗻𝗼𝘀𝗶𝘀 𝘀𝗮𝘃𝗲𝘀 𝗹𝗶𝘃𝗲𝘀, so don't ignore changes in your body.

💜 It's been wonderful meeting so many people over the summer. Claire has been busy, busy, busy... having had the pleasure of being invited to speak with a range of lovely communities.

Here's Claire with South Moor Ladies AFC at the Emma Bolam Cup. An annual charity match in memory of Emma, their teammate. And some photos from the Craghead Emergency Services Funday.

💜 Four out of five people will be infected with Human papillomavirus (HPV) at some point in their lives, and it can cause six different cancers.

Most people won’t have any symptoms and will never know they had it. Having HPV does not mean you will definitely get cancer.

💜 Drinking too much alcohol can contribute to serious illness, including cancer. But there's some simple changes you can make to help you cut down. This can also bring many other long and short term health and wellbeing benefits.

💜 Checking your breasts or chest regularly helps you learn what looks and feels normal for you. This makes it easier to notice any changes that could be a sign of a condition such as breast cancer.

How do you check your breasts and chest?

- Look at your breasts or chest in a mirror to look for any changes. Start with your arms by your sides and then raise them.
- Feel around each breast or side of your chest in a circular motion all the way up to your collarbone and under each armpit. Use a mix of light and firmer pressure. Do not press so hard it hurts.
- Feel around and over each ni**le.

You may find it easier to feel your breasts or chest in the shower or lying down.

💜 Andrea had a wonderful time at the Little Chefs, Big Chefs CIC Summer Family Beach Party last week.

Joined by Bethany from Adult Wellbeing Services Wellbeing for Life, it was a day of fun with all the visitors. It was a fantastic way to bring important messaging around being safe in the sun to the community.

💜 Symptoms of cervical cancer can be caused by many different conditions but it’s important to get them checked by a GP. These include:

- vaginal bleeding unusual for you
- changes in vaginal discharge
- pain or discomfort during s*x
- pain in your lower back or pelvis
