🧡 CAN YOU HELP SUPPORT FND RESEARCH?

We’re pleased to share an opportunity to take part in important research exploring Functional Neurological Disorder (FND).

Kathleen Pirard is a PhD researcher who also has lived experience of FND and has previously published research in this area.

Her current research project is titled:

“Constructing Understanding in Functional Neurological Disorder: A Multi-Perspective Investigation Across Support Networks, Clinical Practice and Lived Experience.”

Kathleen is looking to speak with people who care for or support someone living with FND.

Participation involves an online interview, giving you the opportunity to share your experiences and perspectives and contribute to a greater understanding of FND and the impact it has across support networks.

The research has received ethical approval from the University of Chichester Ethics Committee.

At FND Together We Rise, we believe lived experience including the experiences of those supporting someone with FND has an important role to play in improving understanding, research and future support.

Do you know when pain might be a symptom of a gynaecological cancer?

If you have any unexplained pain for three weeks or more, then it's important to get it checked by a doctor. It's more likely to be something less serious than cancer, but it's important to get checked, just in case.

Keeping a pain diary can help you and your doctor understand more about your pain and give you the tools you need to advocate for yourself at your appointment.

Download our pain diary and track your symptoms:

If you’re worried about any pain symptoms you are having, or have any other questions about gynae cancers, our Ask Eve Nurses are here for free and confidential information and support: [email protected] or 0808 802 0019.

As we head into Gynae Cancer Awareness Month this September, it’s the perfect time to brush up on your knowledge of the signs and symptoms of the five gynae cancers.

If you have any of these symptoms, they’re more likely to be caused by something less serious than cancer, but they’re always worth getting checked, just in case.

Picking up the gynae cancers at the earliest possible stage is really important in opening up more treatment options and it gives you the best possible chance of successful treatment.

If you have spotted any of these symptoms, do visit your GP to get investigated. Our Ask Eve Nurses are also here to speak to for free and can help answer any questions and provide information.

We have lots more information on the five gynae cancers on our website:

Phase 198 is underway 😅 We’re mobilising our happy little baby bank to its new location in the next few weeks. Although this is exciting, it means we have to close to the public while we deconstruct fixtures and get stock ready to move. This week, therefore, we’ll be closed to the general public, though baby bank referrals and crisis response will not be affected.

Thank you to all regular donators who are holding your lovely items until we are ready.

We’ll soon let you know our brilliant outlet weekend details, and arrangements for the new baby bank opening. Keep your eyes peeled for updates 👀🎉

🚨 MEN OF NEWTON ABBOT & TEIGNBRIDGE — WE NEED YOU! 🩲

This September, Wellbeing in Action is going BELOW THE BELT — with two very different events supporting local men affected by male cancers, remembering those we’ve lost, and helping more men recognise the signs that could genuinely save their lives.

🎥 First up: BELOW THE BELT — LIVE SOFA CONVERSATIONS

Come and be part of our live studio audience for an evening that definitely isn’t a boring health lecture!

We’re putting real men who have experienced cancer on the sofa alongside people who know their stuff, for an open, entertaining and straight-talking conversation about the cancers that affect men.

There’ll be refreshments, entertainment, plenty of conversation and, most importantly, information that every bloke should know about his own body — what to look out for, when to get something checked and why catching cancer early can make such an enormous difference.

🩲 Then it’s time for THE CHEEKY WALK!

We’re asking men and boys of all ages to pull on their finest, funniest or most outrageous undercrackers and walk the Templar Way from Newton Abbot to Bovey Tracey FC.

And before anyone panics — pants can absolutely go OVER shorts or trousers! 😂

It’s a sponsored walk with a serious purpose but a LOT of fun: raising money to support local people going through cancer diagnosis and treatment, showing solidarity with the men currently facing it, and walking in memory of those we’ve sadly lost.

At the finish there’ll be refreshments, family entertainment and a superb raffle — so get your mates together, bring the family and make a day of it.

💙 You don’t need to have experienced cancer to take part.
You just need to care about the men in our community.

👇 Please tag a husband, dad, son, brother, mate, colleague or football team who ought to be involved!
