This year marks the 50th anniversary of the founding of Kennet Cassette, the talking newspaper for Newbury and West Berkshire.
This small but important charity was established by Peter Dann a Newbury Round Table member and now 41 Club member. Way back in 1976 Peter had the vision to establish the organisation which provides a weekly audible version of the Newbury Weekly News.
On Friday 29th May Peter and his committee invited volunteers (including some current 41 Club members who act as readers) to a celebration event. Peter was joined by the Mayor of Newbury Cllr Jo Day left and The Mayor of Thatcham Cllr Mark lillycrap and many others. Keep up the good work Peter and see you at the next 41 Club evening in June.

Members of Newbury 41 Club were treated to an extra special guest speaker this evening. Willie Hartley Russell MVO DL gave a fascinating talk about his ancestor David Hartley MP who was one of the four signatories to the Declaration of Independence of the United States of America 250 Years ago.

Willie pictured left with Newbury Chairman Simon Buckland and 41 Club Secretary Jason Leake. He's also signing a book for member Bob Beecroft written by Jeffrey Archer in which Willie is thanked for his contributions.

A lively evening of banter ensued and talks of the forthcoming annual Wantage Games where Newbury and Wantage 41 pitch their athleticism. We dined in the upper tudor timbered room of Cote in Newbury. The very same room that Newbury Round Table was established in in 1953
