Another great day on the south coast. This time Newbury Diver went 13Nm offshore to dive on a wreck in 45m of water....

On July 19th, 1917, while on a voyage with 31 passengers and 20 tons general cargo from London to Marseille and Bombay, the SS Salsette, owned by P&O, was torpedoed by the German U-boat UB-40

Great vis of 6-8m, 13 degrees water temp, almost flat sea and loads of life.

Some photos from Noels first day as a dive manager! Always great to see people getting stuck in and learning new skills with the club.

In his own words:

My first attempt at dive managing with Newbury Scuba Diving Club.

Members of the club helped me with the planning and gave loads of great advice and help. (Thanks everyone.)

The weather was perfect with flat calm sea and lovely and sunny.

Six of us dived the Baygitano wreck and the High Ground Reef last Sunday, the wreck was covered in shoals of Bib and some large Po***ck, I at long last got to see my first Conger Eel and then there was loads of them. I have to go back to see all the Jewel Anemones and nudibranchs that I missed.

The day went well with the minor mistake of forgetting my gloves but Paul kindly lent me his so my dive was back on again. (Thanks Paul!)
We dived in two waves so it made the day a bit longer than usual, so I was glad we had a bank holiday Monday the next day!

Thanks to everyone who came along and made it a great!

We kick off the first of this year's action weekends with an important message:

80% of marine litter comes from rivers and streams! Our local waterways, such as the Kennet & Avon, Pang and Lambourn are also sensitive to plastic pollution… so BIN IT DON’T DITCH IT!

Another great day for club diving. The sea state and weather were brilliant. 7 of us went to dive HMS Saint Dunstan on Saturday. Good visibility (4-5m in places) underwater allowed us to see all the heavy engineering of the dredger, loads of dead-mans-fingers, a school of pollck, some very large eel, pink sea fans, scallops and a few crabs.

Post dive, we enjoyed liquid refreshments and some glorious sunshire. Happy days!!

The 7 members of Newbury Scuba Diving Club enjoyed their first sea dive of the year. The target wreck was the SS Kyarra and was just a short boat ride away from Swanage coutesy of Divers Down. Weather and sea state were most favourable and the vis, for this time of year, was 2-3 meters. A notable milestone for Noel who completed his 30 meter depth progression using a twinset.
