Spotlight on what’s new at Much Hadham Village Hall: this week we’re featuring a brand-new line dancing class, Herts Hitchers Line Dancing with Belinda.
We spoke to Belinda Nuttall to find out more.

What is the name of your club or group?
-----------------------------------------
Line Dancing with Belinda – Herts Hitchers

In a couple of sentences, what is your club/society all about?
-------------------------------------------------------------
Herts Hitchers Line Dancing with Belinda is a fun, friendly beginner-friendly class where people can keep active, learn easy dance routines and meet new people in a relaxed atmosphere. No partner or experience is needed — just come along, enjoy the music and have fun!

Who is your group for?
-----------------------
Herts Hitchers is open to adults of all ages and abilities, especially beginners or anyone returning to dancing after a break. The class is open to everyone — whether you come on your own or with friends — and you can take everything at your own pace.

When and where do you usually meet at Much Hadham Village Hall?
---------------------------------------------------------------
Main Hall – Mondays 7.30 – 8.30pm

How long has your club/society been running, and how long have you been at the Village Hall?
-----------------------------------------------------------------
This is a brand new class. Belinda has been teaching Line Dancing for the U3A for 18 months in Ware, and this is her first private class in the area.

What can someone expect if they come along for the first time?
---------------------------------------------------------------
New dancers can expect a warm welcome, plenty of encouragement and a relaxed, friendly atmosphere. We start with simple step-by-step dances, and everything is taught at an easy pace so everyone can join in and have fun, even if they’ve never line danced before.

Do people need to book in advance, or can they just turn up?
-------------------------------------------------------------
They can just turn up

Is there a membership fee or session cost?
-------------------------------------------
It’s £8 a class

How can people get in touch with you or find out more?
-------------------------------------------------------
They can call/message Belinda on 07974721527 or email [email protected]

Are there any upcoming events, performances, matches, open days or taster sessions you’d like us to mention?
--------------------------------------------------------------
Opening night is Monday the 8th of June 7.30-8.30pm

Is there anything else you’d like local residents to know about your club or society?
--------------------------------------------------------------
Herts Hitchers is all about having fun, keeping active and bringing people together through music and dance. Line dancing is not only enjoyable, but is also recognised by many health professionals as a great way to support fitness, balance, coordination and mental wellbeing. We’re also planning regular social events and open evenings where friends and family can come along, enjoy great music and watch the action.

Could you help keep Much Hadham Village Hall thriving?

Our Village Hall is at the heart of village life – parties, classes, clubs and community events all rely on it being well looked after.

We’re looking for a few more volunteers to join the committee, especially if you can help with:

- Bookings, enquiries and invoicing

- Being a local handy person for small jobs when needed

Maybe you're recently retired, work part-time, or just have a bit of time to give; we’d really love to hear from you.

If you’re interested or want an informal chat about what’s involved, please email Neil Clarke on [email protected]

Here at the Village Hall, we love shining a light on the wonderful clubs and societies that bring our space to life.

This time we’re featuring the much‑loved Much Hadham Baby and Toddler Group – a warm, welcoming space at the hall where little ones play and grown‑ups can relax and connect.

We spoke to Margaret Brent to tell us what makes this group so special.

What is the name of your club or group?
----------------------------------------
Much Hadham Baby & Toddler Group

In a couple of sentences, what is your club/society all about?
-------------------------------------------------------------
We provide a warm and friendly place for children to play, alongside their accompanying adult. The group is well-resourced, with a wide range of toys, to foster child-led play. There is a pop -up café available until 11 am, which encourages people to mix and chat. The last half hour of the session is Song Time, where the children take turns to choose an object from the song sack, and we all join in the song.

Who is your group for?
-----------------------
Babies and young children up to the age of 3years+ with their parents, grandparents or carers

When and where do you usually meet at Much Hadham Village Hall?
----------------------------------------------------------------
We meet on Tuesday mornings, 9.30 am – 11.30 am, during term-time, in the Main Hall.

How long has your club/society been running, and how long have you been at the Village Hall?
----------------------------------------------------------------
There has been a baby and toddler group meeting in the village hall for at least 25 years, but it folded after the lockdown. A new group was formed in September 2021, led by Revd. Steve Bate and his wife, Val. When they retired, the group carried on, gaining new helpers from our village community.

What can someone expect if they come along for the first time?
----------------------------------------------------------------
Families are greeted at the entrance to the Main Hall, where they register for the first session. When they come into the hall, one of the helpers will talk them through what happens in the session, what to do if leaving before the end, and sitting down at the table if you have a hot drink. The atmosphere is friendly, and people mix well.

Do people need to book in advance, or can they just turn up?
-------------------------------------------------------------
Booking is not necessary. Our mantra is: come when you can, leave when you have to.

Is there a membership fee or session cost?
------------------------------------------
The first session is free. Thereafter, families contribute £2.50 each session, which also covers drinks and snacks.

What do your members say they enjoy most about being part of your group?
----------------------------------------------------------------
Some feedback: ‘a very calm and nurturing environment….supportive for me, too.’ ‘Enjoyed the group, so relaxed and welcoming.’ A family who were new to the area said, ‘I’ve met other mums and enjoyed finding out about what is happening locally. There is a good range of toys at the group, and we like song-time at the end.’ Another mum commented, ‘H. has got a lot out of the sessions. Her language and play are developing well.’

How can people get in touch with you or find out more?
-------------------------------------------------------
We can be contacted via our page. Or just turn up in person when we're at the hall.
