This sounds like great news! What do you think? Are you feeling that council housing repairs are getting better? We've seen lots of roofs being repaired recently, how is that going?

Having heard a lot about council housing repair issues, this time last year we met with Councillor Dan Swords and Councillor David Carter to share what we were hearing:

1) repairs were taking too long - sometimes years

2) but Harlow Council’s data showed repairs were on track - a disconnect between their reports and residents’ experience

3) people were being put off from logging issues

4) communication between housing officers and tenants could be improved

We're pleased our meeting may have had an impact.

Is it getting better? There's a quick survey in the comments...

We’ve cut the standard wait time for a repair by 90%, and now have the lowest number of outstanding repairs on record - but we’re going further to improve your repairs service.

From 9 March, we’re switching on a new repairs booking system to make it quicker and easier for our tenants to get the help they need.

Real-time engineer tracking, clearer appointment updates, and online booking will roll out through 2026 - all part of improving how we repair your home by creating a faster, more reliable service for everyone.

We are investing in our housing to Build Harlow's Future.

This time last year we were preparing for a meeting with Councillor Dan Swords and Councilor David Carter to share our findings on council housing repairs - a big issue for many.

Talking to people, we found:
1) repairs were taking too long - sometimes years
2) Harlow Council’s data showed repairs were on track - a disconnect between their reports and residents’ experience
3) people were being put off from logging issues
4) communication between housing officers and tenants could be improved

We’ve seen lots of videos and social media posts from the council since, having changed their approach to council housing repairs.

Has it got better? Are you feeling it? Short survey in the comments…
