We know families are asked for feedback all the time and it can feel like nothing ever changes. We want to be upfront about that. Your time is precious, and sharing your experiences isn’t always easy.

But we also know this - if we don’t hear what’s working, what isn’t, and what’s getting in the way, we can’t make things better. Your voice genuinely shapes what we do next. Every piece of feedback , good, bad, or somewhere in between, helps us understand how to make support easier, quicker, and more meaningful for families.

So if you’re willing, we’d really value your thoughts. Your lived experience is the part we can’t see unless you tell us, and it’s the part that makes the biggest difference.

During our very busy Carers Week, PALS (Play and Learning Support) held a guided walk over Croy Hill and, apart from the rain in the last 2 minutes the walk was wonderful. It certainly blew the cobwebs away! 😁

PALS Play and Learning Support support children with additional support needs and also their carers and the wider family members.

Caring for a loved one is rewarding, but it can also be exhausting and isolating.

Often, carers are so focused on everyone else that they forget to look after themselves. This , let’s show up for themIf you want to support an unpaid carer in your life, skip the generic 'let me know if you need anything' (they usually won't ask!) and try one of these specific actions instead:

🍲 Drop off dinner: Take the pressure off cooking for one night.
🛒 Fancy some Shopping?: Offer to pick up groceries or prescriptions.

☕ Give them space to talk: Invite them out for a coffee, or just send a text checking in on them, not just the person they care for.

Building a carer-friendly community starts with small, daily acts of kindness, which can be found all over from in your community to the groups we have on through the month.

👇Carers, what is the most helpful thing someone has ever done for you? Let us know in the comments!

As Carers Week comes to an end, we wanted to take a moment to recognise and celebrate all the amazing carers across Lanarkshire.

Every day, carers do so much for the people they support, often putting others first and making a real difference in their lives. But it's important to remember that you matter too.

So, here's your reminder:

💙 You're doing an amazing job. Try not to compare yourself to others – everyone is facing different challenges, and your journey is your own.

💙 Take some time for yourself. Caring can be incredibly rewarding, but it can also feel isolating at times. Looking after your own wellbeing is just as important as looking after someone else's.

💙 Be kind to yourself. You don't have to do everything perfectly, and it's okay to ask for support when you need it.

Thank you for everything you do, not just during Carers Week, but all year round.

📩 If you're a carer and would like support, information, or simply someone to talk to, get in touch with us. We're here to help.

Bellshill & Mossend YMCA host “Our Time” Women’s Group every week. A welcoming women’s wellbeing group offering social connection, activities and peer support it is open to both carers and non-carers, with a supportive environment for anyone looking to connect with others.

Most of the group participated in the fantastic Diamond Art workshop, with a couple of participants choosing to sit and chat with the rest of the group. The group was full of fun and one person said, “𝗜𝘁’𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗼𝗻𝗹𝘆 𝗽𝗹𝗮𝗰𝗲 𝗜 𝗴𝗼 𝘁𝗼. 𝗜 𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝗺𝘆 𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲 𝗮𝘁 𝗵𝗼𝗺𝗲, 𝗼𝗻 𝗺𝘆 𝗼𝘄𝗻”

PSHG - North Lanarkshire held a Cocktail and Movie Night recently, showing Calamity Jane in the Airdrie centre.

Short breaks are a fundamental part of helping carers to continue caring. They can help alleviate the physical and emotional demands of caring, help sustain the caring relationship and can be critical to a carer’s sense of health and wellbeing. Reducing isolation and supporting individuals to feel more socially connected as part of a community are also vital components of every short break.
Our activities serve to break down barriers, having a significant positive impact on individual’s happiness, security, quality of life, overall wellbeing, reducing isolation and empowering people. All without imposing significant financial burdens and free from unnecessary barriers that could hinder a carers involvement.
