💙 Loneliness can affect anyone 💙

A friendly visit, a shared laugh or simply knowing someone cares can make all the difference.

That’s why befriending is so important, it helps people feel connected, valued and part of their community.

Next week, 15-21st June is Loneliness Awareness Week. YOU can make a real difference in your community by volunteering 2 hours a week as a Befriender and helping someone to feel a bit less lonely!

If you could spend an afternoon chatting with anyone over a cuppa, who would it be? ☕👇

🌟 Celebrating Our Amazing Volunteers 🌟

As part of National Volunteers' Week last week, we were delighted to host our Annual Volunteer Awards Evening at Rattray Hall.

The event gave us the opportunity to recognise and celebrate the incredible contribution our volunteers make to Monifieth Befrienders and our local community. Through their kindness, dedication and commitment, they help reduce loneliness and social isolation for older people in our area and provide valuable support to those who have experienced bereavement.

Volunteers were presented with certificates in recognition of their service, while those reaching significant milestones received special long-service badges:
🥉 Bronze – 3 years
🥈 Silver – 5 years
🥇 Gold – 10 years

It was wonderful to come together and celebrate these achievements, sharing stories, laughter and appreciation for the difference our volunteers make every day.

The evening finished with a delicious buffet kindly prepared by EMA Catering, giving everyone the chance to relax, chat and enjoy each other's company.

💙 A huge thank you to every one of our volunteers. Monifieth Befrienders simply could not do what we do without your time, compassion and generosity. You make a real difference to the lives of local people, and we are incredibly grateful for everything you do.

📜 If you were unable to attend the awards evening but requested a certificate, please contact Lindsey to arrange collection.

💙 Power of Youth Day 2026 💙

Today, on Power of Youth Day, we’re celebrating the incredible impact of our Young Befrienders from Monifieth High School.

Each week throughout their 6th year, our young volunteers give up an hour of their time to visit an older person in our community, offering companionship, conversation, laughter, and friendship.

What starts as a volunteering opportunity often becomes something much more meaningful. Stories are shared, confidence grows, friendships flourish, and many connections continue long beyond the school year. 💬✨

Our Young Befrienders gain valuable life experience, develop communication and empathy skills, and make a real difference to someone’s life, while our older Friends enjoy companionship, connection, and the joy of getting to know the next generation.

Power of Youth Day recognises the leadership, compassion, and positive impact young people have in communities across the UK, and today we want to say a huge THANK YOU to all of our Young Befrienders for the kindness, care, and energy they bring to Monifieth Befrienders. 💙
