Guisborough Class Restarts 🎉

It’s been quite a while since we had to suspend our Guisborough class following tutor Christine’s retirement but we’re delighted to announce that the class has restarted in the capable hands of Jackie Crawley, who also takes the Redcar/Coatham class. The venue is the same – Sunnyfield House on Westgate and the class is on a Wednesday afternoon from 3:30 ’til 5.

Please come along if you want to take part and let anyone who’s interested in joining a Take Heart class in Guisborough know about it.

Thanks to a generous donation in memory of a former member we now have 2 new cracking items of equipment - a second treadmill at Coulby Newham and a replacement cross trainer at Marske. I'm sure everyone at both classes will make good use of them 😀

Redcar Working Men's Unionist Club (Dene Grove) are holding their 15th annual charity fundraising evening on Saturday the 5th of September in memory of one of their patrons who sadly passed away in 2011. Take Heart Support Group are the fortunate beneficiaries on this occasion with all monies raised being donated to our funds. Any money raised up to the first £1,000 is being matched by Denise from the Redcar branch of Barclays UK

The evening's entertainment starts at 7pm with a live singer, raffle, tombola and auction of Middlesbrough team shirts ⚽. You can bring your own food and everyone is welcome but unfortunately children are not allowed. So be sure to tell all your friends and family to come along.

Our race night on Wednesday made £466 for Take Heart Support Group funds. Thanks again to everyone involved in making it happen and to all those who turned up to support us or bought raffle tickets in our classes 🥳

We had a great time last night at our Race Night run by Trevor and Katy from Russell Race Nites and held at Redcar Rugby Club . Everyone enjoyed themselves and we raised a decent amount of money for Take Heart Support Group funds. Thanks to Trevor, Katy and everyone who came along 🙂

(My personal favourite was the Irish pig racing 🐖😀 - who knew?)

Thanks to a generous donation we have a lovely piece of art, dating from the 1930s, for sale in aid of Take Heart Support Group . It's a certified artist's proof of a pen and ink work with a watercolour wash entitled Silver Birch Wood and is signed by the artist.

The artist is Alice Barnwell (1910-1980). She was a painter and printmaker who lived and worked at Lickey, North Worcestershire, but exhibited widely including the Royal Academy, the Royal Cambrian Academy and the Royal Hibernian Academy. A diverse artist, she was best known for her detailed watercolours and colour etchings of landscapes and animals. She could also turn her hand to glass engraving and produced a number of pictorial designs for marquetry for the cabinetmaker Oliver Morel (1916-2003)

Her works sell for between £40-80 on online auction sites. You can own this artwork for a donation to our funds of £35 or more. My photos don't do it justice and if you'd like to see it in person I could bring it along to one of our classes.
